Could you dig out that website that you mentioned a while back Bob? It would be a great help to me.

This forum might help you out:
http://www.rage3d.com/board/forumdisplay.php?forumid=61
It was originally an Ati based website. They would prolly offer a few insights into Linux Ati drivers.

I'm pressuming you all ready knew this Homey V/Homey B:
Some notes for debian users:
The debian Linux distribution in most cases does not come with the
ability to handle rpm packages with the rpm tool. But there is a
tool called "alien" which allows you to convert rpm files into the
debian supported *.deb package format. Please consult your debian
documentation on how to operate this tool.
A typcial debian installation commandline will look like this:
dpkg -i <ati_package_name>.deb
In order to override complaints (which might be caused by an already
installed package "xlibmesa3" that also provides the file libGL.so.1.2)
please use this installation command line:
dpkg -i --force-overwrite <ati_package_name>.deb

Way ahead of you...
You can actually apt-get rpm and it works fine...
There were other problems with Debian based systems and the ATI drivers also.

Bit-tech : We want to know about drivers for Linux and freeBSD. When are we going to see comprehensive releases for these OS', an area that Nvidia dominates right now?
ATi : We have just recently commited ourselves to 6 Linux driver releases per year, meaning that we want to supply the Linux community with more frequent updates. We have also put a Linux Beta tester program in place, just like the one we have for our Windows based CATALYST program. We do sincerely hope to receive as valueable feedback from the Linux Beta testers as we do from our Windows CATALYST Beta testers. So we have paved the path and commited ourselves to supply the Linux community with better service and better drivers.
