Remember the price wars from the Thunderbird era?

They're back. As the first article states, if Intel is selling the 805 now for $135, imagine what you'll be able to buy at that price range when Conroe hits.

ya Jason this is like 2 weeks old at least. you're slipping :p
but seriously if they drop enough I'll probably grab a 955XE and hand down my 820 to a second computer.
I dont want to upgrade fully to conroe I dont think be cause I need a new board, ram and processor. But we will see when the benches and overclocking results come out
I've been following this fairly closely
side note the AM2 seems very disappointing. Basically its a 939 with DDR 2 support

Gentlemen, we got 20 calls about the David Hyde-Pierce incident. And as you know, one call equals a billion people, which means 20 billion people were offended by this

I don't post on rumor--only fact. I'm not the Inq.
AM2 seems disappointing? Maybe. For the last half of 2006 it'll be Intel's year. Come 2007 when 2+ cores become more common and if AMD finishes "reverse" Hypertransport, they'll be back at the front most likely.
And for all the people proclaiming the death of AMD because of some SuperPI results.........puuuuuuh-leeeeeeaaaase. Yes, Conroe will be better. Upgrade worthy? You decide:

You'll note that they're pretty close (engineering Conroe vs. engineering AM2 pretty much eliminates any maturing advantage in my books). Don't make your decision completely until we've got retail parts with a mature BIOS. And since I have a 3gig Opteron sitting here, there's no way I'll be upgrading to Conroe. Crossfire for me thank you very much.
The Anandtech results are much more favourable for Intel, but that was a rig setup by Intel. The results up above are off of engineering samples so those Conroe results could be neutered. When I don't know what's going on fully, the dollars stay in my wallet.

I agree,
I'm not to likely to go out and get new ram, chip and board just for the conroe.
Don't get me wrong I'm not an intel fan-boy. Infact I have been almost solely AMD for most of my computer life until this year.
But the AM2 that is schedualed to be released still seems a litle disapointing to me... Not worth upgrading thats for sure.
either way its good for prices thats for sure. I'll probably pick up a chip that has a higher multiplier then the 14X that my 820 has or at least something that can clock a bit better. My chip seems to top off just shy of 4 ghz
