Radeon 9600 Pro

Some stuff on HardOCP about the new R9600Pro. Lots of benchmarks and image quality tests going on. The GFFX 5600 gets raped in the review by both the 9500pro and the 9600 pro. Kinda sad when NVidia's midrange card gets so horribly beaten. Both Radeons almost double the 5600's score in most tests.

This is their money card. Almost the same performance of the 9500 Pro, almost 1/2 the transitors necessary. You do the math. Essentially, it's a repeat of the whole 8500/9000 ordeal. A good business move. However, if yer in the market for a vid card, grabbing a 9500 Pro right now may be a sound investment (ala Homey V). The only game the 9600 came out on top in everything was Splinter Cell (though, this being a new game, it might show that the 9600 is better suited for future games. Crap shoot overall, really).

Currently comtemplating buying one............but I need to rob a few bums first

Currently available for $346, but if you're not gonna overclock it (like me) you're better off buying the 9500 Pro for $262 (though, I have seen PowerColor 9700 Pro's for $445).

No, 9700 for $350 which you can PERHAPS overclock to the speeds of a 9700 PRO (those last 3 words make a big difference). Go to these articles and look at the speed differences to see how much:

If you all ready knew that and were implying that you were just gonna buy the 9700 and overclock it to 9700 pro speeds, well..........ignore the articles :mrgreen:

Gonna have to wait and see what the retail 9600 Pro overclocks to on average. If all of them overclock as well as the [H]ardOCP one, they I would give a very slim margin of favour to the 9600 Pro over the 9500 Pro. Like I always say: just wait and see

Patience is a virtue. 9500pros are fairly cheap, but I dont see that many 9600pros on the market right now, but waiting is the key.
