Scotty's Dead. Too bad to hear about this... I suppose all the cast will eventually die, but why? Can't we somehow remove their heads and place them in jars until the year 3000?

Actually, he put himself into a continuous loop within a transporter cycle and is waiting for Geordi to bring him around.

James Doohan, the late actor who played Chief Engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in the early "Star Trek" franchise, was beamed up to space, as portions of his remains were aboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket that launched earlier this week.
