9" Monitor (ATT:Jason for a question)
I got a sweet 9" monochrome monitor! it's sooooo sweet!
just had to share this new info.
Now Jason, remember when we were talking about multiple monitor outputs in Q3? This is what I'd like to do: Have the 9" showing a duplicate output of my Q3, only always zoomed in. Is it possible? If so, do you know what sort of scripting might be involved?
Thanx.

As long as your secondary vid card/secondary output supports opengl, then yes, you can do a duplicate. Note that the cruddiest vid card will be the lowest common denominator, though. With 1 vid card and 2 outputs it shouldn't be a problem, though (does your gf3 have crt and dvi?).
Having the other zoomed in, however, is dicey. It will just be a duplicate or stretched (depending on how you set it). So no, I don't think anything in the console would let you run 1 copy of q3 with 1 copy zoomed in and the other not.
Though, there is a work around. Stretch your desktop rather than duplicate it. Open up 2 copies of quake3. Put one on one desktop and one on the other (you make need to assign individual ip's......or buy 2 lan cards). Have the second copy follow you in first person mode. Then zoom that person in. As long as ya fuglify it and have a decent proc, you should be fine (I once ran a dedicated server and a client on my duron 700 with 128 mb ram at a lan. There was lag for the other people, but I was serving and didn't experience any. Client side only I think it would work out much better).
But if you can figure a way to do with just 1 copy and the config, I'd be very interested in how you did it.

well it's an S3 Vision 864... how would I go about getting a second client running on the other side? I'll try, but if I don't reply to this I couldn't get it working.

The secondary card needs to be able to run Quake 3. If your S3 can't, then you can't run Q3 on both monitors. Often, it will give you an OpenGL error and not even let you run it on one monitor/display. If you can't even get Q3 to run on your GF3, display the secondary display and it should work.
To get another client running on the other side, you may need to install another copy of Q3 (not sure about this. A .bat file might let you run the 2 copies from the same folder differently and independently of each other). Start the game NOT full screen and then just drag it over. You prolly won't be able to resize it. Though, try editing the a .bat/config to change the resolution.
Pinto, what vid card was the guy running? Could be that it wasn't a .bat file/config tweak; he may just have a Matrox Parhelia (then it's a driver thing).

what I'm probably going to end up doing is just run Q3 from my little 233 Compaq, and then hook up the tiny monitor to it, and then follow myself, no biggie right? as long as I don't have to lug that around to LANs...
Well, if the LANs are here from now on, there is no problem right?

I wouldn't call it cheating since he has to look away from the main monitor to the second. I wouldnt allow it at a lan party for one reason: It requires 2 monitors. 2 monitors, no matter how small, take up too much space and power. its just not fair for everyone else, especially since they arent neccesary monitors.

Fair enough. But at any tournament run at the Redneck Beatdown's, it'll be disallowed. One, for simplicity's sake. Two, the second comp can follow the opponents just as easily follow Nik.
Though, I don't think you'd need a second comp. I'd try having 2 copies of q3 before I went to all that bother. You should be able to open the second copy in a window and move it over to the other side.
