Episode 1 was supposed to be released on May 21, but got bumped up to May 19 (a Wednesday) so that it could break economic records. Now they're choosing May 19 off the start.
Well, maybe it's only a factoid I could appreciate.
I thought the reason they released on a Wednesday was because the first one was released on a wednesday, and that has traditionally been the release day for Star Wars Movies.
Dunno about that. All I know is that Episode I was orginally supposed to be on the Friday and they changed it to the Wednesday. May is the tradition that I know of. Here's from the article:
Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope - May 25, 1977 (my comp clock only goes to 1980)
Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back - May 21, 1980 (Wed)
Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi - May 25, 1983 (Wed)
Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace - May 19, 1999 (Wed but originally Friday, the 21rst)
Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones - May 16, 2002 (Thur)
I'm guessing your Wednesday thing does apply. Well, up to Episdoe II that is. We'll just pressume the first one was released on a Wed. Wonder why Episode I was orignally supposed to be a Friday? Ah well.
Episode III won't be released on Wednesday, though. Well, not if they release it on the 19th of May that is (it's a Thursday).
Your right, May 25th, 1977 was also a Wednesday. I wonder why they switched it to Thursdays beginning with Episode II. Maybe thurs is more profitable for some reason.
I think they were going to have Episode I on a Fri because that is when most movies are released these days but they put it back to Wednesday to stick with tradition.
