An anonymous reader writes "Just browsing hardocp.com and noticed a link to this article. 'The Inquirer has posted a method of getting massive amounts of hard drive space from your current drive. Supposedly by following the steps outlined, they have gotten 150GB from an 80GB EIDE drive, 510GB from a 200GB SATA drive and so on.' Could this be true? I'm not about to try with my hard drive." Needless to say, this might be a time to avoid the bleeding edge. (See Jeff Garzik's warning in the letters page linked from the Register article.)

That's horse cr@p. Hard drives have to pass tests just like any other product. They bin them down. It will probably show you more space, but it would most likely be unuse-able. Same deal as with a 9500 softmod from Ati only I think the success rate would be far less.

It sounded kinda fishy to me too...
Personally, Im strapped for HD space as it is, and I cant afford to blow one up to get another 2 gigs, which may or may not work...

Well, my thought on the matter would be that if the space was 100% reliable, why wouldn't the company just sell it as a bigger HD and make a bigger profit? Now, if it turns out that this starts having success rates like the softmod I might be interested. Until that time--horse cr@p.

Personally, I can see that they may be 'hiding' some hard disk space for various reasons, but the amount that they claim is ridiculous...
