at this point... I dont know if i will even vote..
for real and this is something i have thought about...
I dont wanna be apart of this crap that we call a vote..
there is none woth voting for and none i want to win..
for me it would be a wait of time to vote thanks to the fact that no matter who gets into power would suck...
the only thing right now that might make me vote is i dont want the (old pc party) to get into power but also i dont want the libs and NDP to get power...
in a vote such as this how does one make sure that Conserivative's dont get into power but that libs and ndp also dont get into power??
there is no way for this to work.. and voteing for a little guy does nothing but maybe put them into power and we all dont want that...
So now you understand why i may not vote..

You sound as though nobody meets your criteria.
Therefore, you should run.
Vote the Gray zone............when nothing else seems definite.

I can't stand the liberals. I used to support them, but now I just can't. I am ashamed to live in a country that officially condones homosexual marriage, and it's all the Liberal's fault. I don't care what people think of my opinion, as everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I won't yell at anyone if they disagree. Some people would call what I just said hate speech, but that is not the case. The fact of the matter is, that I don't hate homosexuals, but I will not condone their lifestyle, and I will not accept anyone who trys to force me to condone it. Anyway, that is the main reason that the Liberals will never have my vote.
As far as the rest of the parties are concerned, I will not waste my vote on "the little guy." And since I won't vote NDP/NCP (New Communist Party), I am left voting for the conservatives, who I also don't like, but find the least offensive of the big three (well, the NDP isn't so big, as they barely have official party status).
The only reason I am voting is because I feel that if you don't vote, then you don't have any right to argue with the way things turn out.
If you really want my opinion though; the other driving factor behind Canadian disillusionment is the extremely useless court system. The judges are all liberal extremists, so every law that gets passed, and every court decision, falls under the extremely liberal umbrella. The problem with the courts is that they have way too much power, and the whole country has to abide by what a few morons with legal degrees and huge wallets decide is best for everyone.
I'm just trying to piece together the entire issue.
This whole mess is why I think that Canada would be best suited as a dictatorship. At least then it makes sense when the leader is doing things the rest of the country hates.
Hey Bob, let's go with the plan we had for the University, but on a larger scale. And you can have the nice white grand admiral's uniform.

Actually, one could argue that any majority government in Canada is a dictatorship. That's my large problem with our government system. I don't understand why we have a "silent" vote while they have to vote "out loud." Any MP from any party that disagrees with their leader should have the right to not vote with him/her. The MP's represent their riding and if that riding disagrees with the direction the PM is going, he should be allowed to express that without being fired.
And don't even get me started on the Senate.
If you guys are starting some sort of coup...............I call dibs on a rank no less than colonel.

umm one question..(i dont mean this is in a bad way)
but its it true that the old pc party/ conserivate party/what ever party (lol) is trying to turn our health care into more like the americans health care .. and if this is true how could you vote for them.. that one fact makes it so I would never vote for them even if I am against the gay thing...
more or less I am not bashing i just want the facts before the vote..
at this point they would never get my vote just because of the heath issue...it just sounds to crazy and our health care is what makes canada so different then the usa and everyone else...

http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/Art ... olumnists/That's where it all stems from and the media seems to be over-reacting. First rule: the media is a business and they want to stir up $h!t for ratings. Never forget that.
The Conservatives have been silent on how they'll react to Alberta's health care plan and there has been speculation on whether the Conservatives will allow people to choose other health care places with their tax dollars.
http://www.cbc.ca/stories/2004/06/04/ca ... lthc040604They do say they'll give more $ for health care (moot point as everyone does

).
http://www.cbc.ca/stories/2004/06/23/al ... alth040623This is what is causing the broohaha. Klein hasn't said what his intentions are and Alberta, technically, already has private clinics for some medical procedures.
http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/Art ... olumnists/If you actually look at what Klein proposed, it's actually very similar to what McGuinty did--take more money out of the middle class and up from taxes. So Alberta's grand plan to "destroy health care," as of what we know now at this exact moment in time, is what Ontario has already been hit with.
The Canada Health Act does not preclude the private delivery of publicly funded services.
Health care doesn't need to come from a government institution only by law. That quote is from the Liberal healthcare minister. Nothing in the law says we can't use our taxes to pay off a private company.
I, personally, don't see why people are in a tizzy about. I would gladly pay $10 every time I go to the doctor/E.R. When I go to the doctor I almost always need to fill out forms because it's been so long that I've been there. I've got a hunk of metal in my eye or something--I need to be there. It would make people who abuse the systems think twice about doing so.
I pay a fee to use public transportation, to use a public library, to go to a public university, and so on. We're not a wholly socialist country. Compare us to Sweden and we're nowhere close. I'm all for user fees. For example, I think we should have electronic tolls in major cities (cuts down traffic, which cuts down pollution, and might make it so that the people outside of Toronto don't have to pay for their public transportation.........which we do in case you didn't know). I'm all for access for all, but I believe people who use the system more than others should pay for that.
I'd continue on with my rant on American vs. Canadian culture, but I've already said too much.

You make a good point. Strictly privatizing health care is definately a bad thing. I have no desire to become more "Americanized," but the way I see it, that can't be helped with the current state of things. The very fact that we are joined at the hip with them means that it is inevitable. But that is also the reason that I hate the PC party.
The whole thing comes down to this: I hate the Liberal party, I hate the NDP, and voting for the little guy is actually a vote for the big party that gets the most votes, because you aren't going against them. For this reason I have chosen the consrvative party as the one that I can handle the most. The only way things will get done the way Canadians really want them to, is to force the government to accept the judgement of the people when it comes to deciding key policies. Let the polititions draft the bills, make minor policy decisions, etc. But have the people decide what should and should not be made official policy. If that happens, the only factor that the party in power will have is the wording of the bills, and the specific details of the policies, but all of it will be based on what the people want, and the people will decide if it is made law.
Frankly, I don't care who gets the power seat, as long as it isn't the liberals or NDP, and since it won't be a smaller party, the only way I can foil the Liberals is to vote Conservative. And as far as I can tell, the health care system doesn't work to begin with. There are backups in the hospitals, and people still have to pay for most of their own medical care, with a semi private hospital room costing up to $2000.00 per day, pensioners don't last long before they are forced to leave the hospitals, even though they have to be there. Canada needs a health care system like Cuba, which has been noted for having one of the best systems in the world.
If there was a party that stood to the far right on some issues, and on the far left for health care and social support I would vote for them, but there are no "moderate" parties that straddle the line. None of the parties has the proper perspective. They are all so far off centre that they don't accept any of the views of the other parties, and alienate many people who don't share the values of the extreme socialist or corporate doctrines.
So, my reasoning is:
- Don't waste my vote
- Don't allow the Liberals or NDP to lead Canada again anytime soon
- Try to encourage people to force the government into accepting public action in regard to the important issues. (doesn't depend on any one party, thus I vote conservative)
- Last Resort - Stage a coup and get rid of all political figures above the municipal level (deportation, not execution [if possible]). Form a strict dictatorship and get some pointers from Castro (He's outlasted every political leader I've ever heard of). Instigate the changes that I mentioned previously. Hold onto power as long as possible to ensure that nobody rises up during my lifetime to screw it up, but ensure true democracy.

People always talk about problems with health care, but I've never seen it.
Grandpa and Grandma Hill got cared for in their own house by a nurse, when Grandma Van Nuland had a minor stroke there was a response unit there in about 5 minutes (this is NOT a hyperbole.......granted, the guy happened to be next door at a cow farm), I've always been patched up in the E.R., Dad got diagnosed with a hernia he had the operation literally the next day, Leanne got patched up at the E.R. after she stabbed open her thumb (to the point she still plays piano), Jonathan got into sick kids for his kidneys (mmmmm...........morphine), Dad knows 2 guys who were given bypass surgery with 2 days of being diagnosed, and these are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
If this is the health care that's been raped by Mike Harris, I'll take it.
More importantly, I don't feel more money is always the answer. Spend smarter, not more. I don't throw money at businesses who can't spend it right and are going bankrupt. I mean, it's not exactly like the health care has any competition. If anything they should be turning a massive profit.

Good luck at the polls tomorrow everyone.
I look forward to an orderly election that
will eliminate the need for a violent bloodbath.
I also suggest to TSB that if he is not going to vote for one of the main three parties that he cast his vote for one that doesn't have a chance of winning in protest, Green and Grass are good choices for this.
To Samurai, perhaps you should consider voting for the CHP, they might fit your right-wing views better....a vote cast is never a vote wasted.

just on a side bar to scare those who are actually unaware of how the political system works in this country let me be clear
THE PARTY WITH THE MOST SEATS DOES NOT REPEAT DOES NOT NECESSARILY FORM GOVT
here is how it works. We all vote and things shake down however the chips fall (for our case lets assume the following)
PC- 120
Libals- 97
NDP- 43
Bloq- 40
Green -8
While in this case the conservatives have a clear majority from those seats won, they do not legally form the govt... you see what happens is the Governor General goes to the party which /he/she feels would make a good governement for that term and asks them. (there has been a lot of discussion of NDP/Lib alliance trumping the seats conservatives win) Thus it is really up to the governor general... they pick the govt by asking the party leader to accept power.... there has only been once that a party leader has ever refused on the grounds they did not have the support to run the country
So there has been a lot of talk about the Gov Gen asking the liberals with the support of the ndp to form the next govt regardless of the conservative seating... this is due to the fact that baring some miraclethe lib/ndp together ARE going to get more seats then the conservatives
just something to think about as we are all watching the votes come in tonight

Isn't the provincial option a federal option also? Have a minority government and then call another election a few months/one year later in an attempt to get a majority?

yes you can do that... call a vote to get a majority... however it is very taboo to do so.... most of the time (in the past) the govt has prefered to fail a vote of confidence and thus a vote is manditory
it is thought to anger the voters calling ellections to close together
