RIP LRP

Post by THE JEW (RaVeN) »

The Linux Router Project has closed:

http://linuxrouter.org/

I still say this is proof that the Linux community may want to consider the id software business model if they want to stay viable.

id software releases their games and you buy them if you want to get the full experience (ie. key code to play online). They release the code for the gameplay usually quite quickly so that people can see how things interact gameplay-wise. A few years later, they release everything (ie. the engine source code). You're allowed to use/modify it as long as you post your developed source code. If you want to keep your code private, you pay id a fee (of a nominal amount of something like $5000 or $10 000 US for the Quake engine.........which is a very small fee compared to other engine licensing fees).

I agree with you JEW, just not in this case. In my opinion the LRP was killed by a lack of colaberation among the Router projects. I have done much reasearch in this area and I only went to LRP once. Other projects such as FreeSCO had better implimentation and comunity support.
