Router Problems
ok
My cousin needed me to hook up his router and get the 2 comps on the internet.
He has Sympatico hi-speed internet
ok i hooked eveything up right i got the modum hooked up to the router then the two comps hooked into the router.
Now the problem
I cant seem to get the router to give out those fucking IP addresses that you need.
If one comp is hooked into the just the modom the internet will work. Now when i put it through the Router then it wont work.
The two comps can see eachother over the network but I cant seem to get the internet wroking.
I ran "cmd"
then cheecked the ipconfig and i made the ip addresses all 0 then i went to renew and it wouldent. Damit
Im stuck i need some help here
ty if any

Is it DSL that he is hooked up with? If so, is it a DSL router? If it is DSL and its not a DSL router than thats the problem. Check the router for firmware upgrades and check the cables your using as well.

if it did not renew then it is a DHCP problem. I recomend changing the defualt sub-nets that the router wishes to use to something like 192.168.101.XXX. this way you can be sure that it is working. P.S. one router i worked with had a pacticaly hidden check box to enable the DHCP try looking for it.
Best of Luck!

not nessaceraly. 2 windows machines could still work together if the dhcp was down. Windows sets its own network up in the 168 band. A hardware Router is, after all a gloified switch.
I also asumed that matt would have already entered a username/password before coming to the board for help.
