Speed. What a feeling. Anyone who has ever been out with their friends and raced each other home knows the feeling. Your buddy tries to pass you and you push down the pedal a little more and cut him off. "Oh no you don't" you think to yourself. "This race belongs to me!" Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker), after the loss of his badge for helping a friend in LA, has acquired a taste for speed, and now he?s paying the price for it.
The beginning of 2Fast 2Furious shows us 3 racers lined up ready to go, but missing a fourth. So race organizer Tej (Chris "Ludacris" Bridges) gives Brian a call. The car Brian shows up with was my favourite from the whole movie. A beautiful blue striped silver Nissan Skyline GTR. The steering wheel is on the right (not left) side, which added an extra element of schaweetness to the car. The first race seems to be longer than a rally race and ends with a jump off of a raised draw bridge that should surely cause death or serious injury, but this is just the beginning of a wild and crazy ride.
Brian is caught by his former CIA boss and given a choice: face 150 counts of recklessness and resisting arrest, or work for them and see his charges disappear. Brian has only one stipulation: that he choose his partner. He picks his old friend from LA, Roman Pearce (Tyrese). Pearce is offered the same deal as O?Conner: to see his rap sheet disappear.
The duo have the time of their lives dominating races in Miami, and wreaking havoc on bad guy Carter Verone (Cole Hauser). The entire movie left me entertained and I didn?t get the feeling of boredom or restlessness. The guy 3 seats down from me, on the other hand, looked like he had a bad case of hollow-leg syndrome, and was up every 5 or 10 minutes getting another snack. The hour and 40 minutes that this movie took from my life was well worth it, and I?d see it again in a heartbeat.
Me and Dempsey were late as usual, and walked in during the last preview. The theatre was packed and it was the Saturday late show. After it was over, we were sitting there watching the credits and I looked around. I saw two others who were staying for the credits. "Wow", I thought, "someone else stays for the whole thing." Guess who it was! Our good friends Thumperup and Chopper! What a friendly coincidence.
I think Dempsey said it best when he said: "There could have been no talking in the whole bloody thing, and it still would have been an awesome movie."
