Apparently, the processes that are being developed will be just as bad as those today. Kinda defeats the purpose. This was the whole reason GM dropped its battery car--the batteries themselves did more damage to the environment than they were worth.
However, I do believe that fossil fuels will be necessary as the "tide-over" medium. I didn't see many hydrogen fuel stations last I looked. The question will be whether they switch over from fossil fuels in the future.
