Mac's aren't all bad...

Post by [PX] Nebuchadnezzar »

I want an iPod, they're just cool. I wouldn't want to use a Mac for gaming. Why would I? I have a kick ass PC for that.
I know that the people at Apple might disagree with me. That's fine. It's their responsibility to their stockholders and the survival of the company to push the Macintosh as the superior platform and encourage people to switch over. It's a necessity of staying in business and I understand it coming from them. I just don't understanding it coming from consumers.
Look, computers are just like any other product or tool. Find what you like and use it. I don't understand why it has to be so "us vs. them" on the consumer level. Coke HAS to say it's better than Pepsi. That's just how it works. But we as consumers don't have to choose along such deliberate lines. Can't you be in the mood for both at different times? Is there anything wrong with that? How hard is it to juggle two different thoughts in your head at once? Is it really THAT difficult to walk and chew gum at the same time? Do I need to be attacked for wanting to do that?
I like Macs. I like the simplicity and the idea of one company making all the pieces. They're impossible to upgrade, but they're great for people like my mum who read their mail and chat to friends. More than anything, I like the idea of starting over with something new. It's a whole new platform to learn and explore and so far, it's been very appealing and impressive to me. I've been using Windows and Microsoft products exclusively for over 10 years. The idea of change is inviting. I am starting with Linux too so why not Mac OS which is built on a Unix base.
The only thing more annoying than a PC user telling me why I don't want a Mac is a Mac user telling me why I should want one. I'm tired of everyone pelting me with arguments for one side or the other.
My question then is this: can't we find a way for both Macs and PCs to co-exist?

Not from this corner
When Steven Seagal kills a ninja, he only takes its hide. When Chuck Norris kills a ninja, he uses every part.

Chuck Norris and Mr. T walked into a bar. The bar was instantly destroyed, as that level of awesome cannot be contained in one building.

I haven't heard anything truly good about a mac, besides macs can't play my little yahoo games. I really love those yahoo games.

if you would have all read what I posted, I'm suggesting a world with Macs and PCs co-exsisting. Macs for say, video editing, and a PC for your Yahoo games.

yes and the world all has lots of $ to wast on a two computers, thats just retarded. Get a computer that does all the stuff you need and you will save lots of $ in the end. The world revolves around $ no matter what it is it all comes back to $.Macs are way more exspensive then a PC and shure they do lots of stuff but i would rather make a good investment that a shitty one. If your only doing photo editing or video editing then by all means get a Mac because there great for that stuff but if your doing other stuff then why wast that $ on two macheins.

I don't think that there are many people here on this board that only have 1 machine. I have 3 or 4 (if I fixed the other 2 up) and I gave one to my mum to pay her back for the internet she's payed for all these years.

My main point in this is that I'm getting an iPod, very soon. I don't care who made it, because it still kicks regardless.

As an aside note, Macs aren't the dominant force in photoshopping/video editing anymore. A dual Athlon MP system will always beat it in 3d max, maya, photoshop, premiere, etc. Heck, the reviews I've read even show a single P4 beating the Mac most of the time. The kick in the pants is that all the Adobe products are running in emulation on the PC architecture and are still faster than the Mac.

I like 'em all............it's just that I feel that there's not as much to like about Macs compared to PCs.

**where are the people singing the praises of the Amiga or Commodore? ;) **

Regardless of how I feel about them, Macs do have a place in the market. Imagine a world where innovation was never encouraged. In a world such as this, prices would be high, and choices would be slimmer than they are now. Regardless of whether you like Macs or not, they do many things well (yes I said many) and while a dual Athlon MP system may out-perform them in areas where they previously dominated that doesnt change the fact that competition is good. Before you scream out that Macs "suck donkey balls etc..." try using one. I have, and damn is OS X ever sleek, purdy and efficient. Dont get me wrong, I would never switch over to one, it just wouldnt serve my purposes, but I would never wish them out of the market place. Not to mention the fact that they are incredibly user friendly. I would buy a mac for my parents if they told me to buy a new computer for them, simply because they are easy to use and never crash (seriously, my friend ran his for the entire school year, never shut it down once.) or have retarded problem like Windows does (dont turn this into a windows vs whatever argument. You know stupid errors happen Im not pointing blame for it, im just saying they do). iPods are currently THE BEST portable MP3's player bar none. My brother has one, several of my friends from school (Who are PC enthusiasts to the teeth) have one, and they all love the little things to death. They are sleek, sexy and easy as fuck to use, not to mention reliable. I personally would buy an iPod in a heartbeat if I could afford one. The bottom line is this. You may not like Macs but Apple has been one of the most innovative companies in the computer world since the beginning. While they may have made some retarded errors in judgement in recent years, I would still never get rid of them. Dont just base your opinions on whether or not you like a product or company. Actually look into it and do a little thinking before blurting out
No it still sucks donkey dick no matter how you look at it

or some other ridiculously uneducated opinion. Jason and Nick are the only ones here who seem to have a rational opinion of the situation.
