Australia takes pointers from China's Great Firewall and decides to create a giant filter to "protect" its people:

Mind you, the government there is highly competent in the ways of the computer. I mean, it's not like they'd leave a "top secret" website open to all without a password:

Canadian sci-fi author doesn't get jail time, but still is charged after he obeyed conflicting border guards:

Court says the government can take away Amendment rights as it sees fit:
http://yro.slashdot.org/story/10/06/22/ ... ?art_pos=1
Surely, this should be challenged.

A look at Drake, the man who blew the whistle on the N.S.A. and how the case potentially makes all journalists spies in the USA:

Re: NSFW--A Look At Liberty
What with Canada changing our personal rights in regards to mandatory retirement, I found an interview on CBC this morning interesting for what seemed like a counter-intuitive reason.
If you are close to 65 (ie. 64), informing your employer that you are unable to fully complete your job to past standards due to your age actually works in your favour. Under the new law, they are required to give you training and you are not allowed to be let go solely based upon age and/or job skills relating to age. If you do NOT inform them, they can claim they had no idea your work was suffering due to age and let you go due to work performance being sub-par.

The UK has enough hubris to think they can filter out pr0n on the internet. You read that right.

Re: NSFW--A Look At Liberty
This is a step towards tiered, nationalized internets that if followed to it's conclusion will eliminate the value of having it in the first place. It's the notion of a networked externality where the value of a good increases with the amount of people using it. Fax machines are only worth anything if other people have fax machines, the internet's content is derived from having a multitude of sources and a multitude of people who are interested in that content.
This is a case of an old guard mentality trying to stifle something new that they don't understand.
[EDIT: that "s" pluralizing internet was entirely intentional and not meant to be webspeak cutesy.

When in doubt, nuke it from orbit...
