Co2 VS HPA

Yeah HPA is really not worth it unless you are going to play in tournaments

Or unless you want to fire clean air through your gun at the same pressure every time. There are lots of other reasons too. Don't take my word for it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alc0650GY0w

This guy is the man for all things paintball. He is mostly into speedball, but does play scenario as well. I trust his opinion and would make a purchase decision based solely on his recommendation.

Re: Paintball Wholesale Prices

I tested the constancy thing with my hpa and with C02, I noticed very little to no difference in where the balls landed.
I had the gun setup with the Bipod and used the scope cross-hairs to insure that the gun was on the same target.

It could just be my gun, but as I said, I saw no real difference, well beyond the fact that I got less shots.

And yes, should have said SpeedBall, the A5 is great for scenario lol

Did you watch the video? It loses consistency at a medium-high rate of fire, not during target practice. And yes, the A7 may be better at regulating, but not everyone wants one or can afford it.

oh, i see!
so at single fire HPA and C02 will be the same. but say in full auto mode for example you would really notice it.
I will have to test that with and without the expansion chamber addition to my gun.

I suppose I would not notice then much as I rarely pull the trigger that fast, to cheap to use that many balls lol!

as for the X7 cost, lol go big or go home!

I don't think Bob would see much difference with the X7 because it only uses 350 psi regardless.

So this would probably most effect people using full-auto or burst fire modes which arn't allowed at the field anyway.

Well we all have opinions I guess. Let's leave it at that.

The times i've used HPA I loved it and noticed the difference..... I have a C02 tank and most of the problems I have had were because it's C02 example the time it froze up the guys that did not have problem were Neb and Fist having on HPA on at the time

I think I will buy an HPA tank and use my C02 as backup

I believe HPA is easier to set up and likely better for a light speedball gun.

I also believe a properly set up CO2 gun will have all the consistency and advantages HPA does aside from a slight increase in weight. On the off chance you're walking the trigger fast enough that you blow through 800+ rounds non-stop, just buy a tank cover.

The cost differences would largely come down to whether you play at a pay-field and get an all-day fill card or have to buy a compressor/get a fill station.

Unless we buy a compressor/scuba tank, CO2 is my bet.

These quotes from the posted video are interesting:

"On your entry level guns, like your Tippmann's or Spyders, CO2 serves its purpose."

"On your Tippmann's and Spyders, once you've shot 150 shots your pressure is going to drop."

None of us are world-class speedball players shooting 150rds straight to provide cover.

Dual regging solves most of the consistency problems of CO2:
http://www.techpb.com/forum/index.php?s ... ntry176968

If you want to classify 90% of all players as "newbs" and "not legit" because they play woodsball or use cheap equipment, then you are correct, at least in the sense of your personal terminology being used.

It's rather ironic that I'm asked to cite my sources, when I'm pretty much just making logical statements (other than the bit about liquid CO2 and purity). I really don't see what is so out of the ordinary about what I have said.

According to Palmer, his regulators have a 72:1 response curve. Lets say your gun runs on 200 PSI. You are playing in warm weather, so your tank starts out at 1000 PSI. You shoot a lot, so your tank chills, and your pressure drops to 600 PSI, a fluctuation of 400 PSI! According to Palmer, this means your output will have fluctuated by...

1000PSI - 600PSI=400PSI

400/72= 5.5 PSI

5 PSI. You will have fluctuated by 5 PSI. Now, on a gun that runs off of 200PSI, this can actually make a pretty big difference. However, let's see what happens when we add another regulator (dual regulating).

Output fluctuation in regulator 1 = approximate 5.5 PSI

5.5/72 = .07 PSI fluctuation. That's not a lot.

Now let's do the same thing with HPA. Let's take, say, a NINJA 3000 PSI air system. They claim their regulator has a response curve of 0-50 PSI, from full to empty. To be fair, I'll use a Palmer's Stabilizer as the second regulator.

50/72 = .7 PSI fluctuation.

So from what I have calculated, double regulated CO2 is theoretically more consistent than double regulated HPA in this scenario. Take it as you wish. If I have done something drastically wrong, please correct me.

EDIT: I realize that I was counting the CO2 as empty when the liquid was gone, not when the PSI was zero. I didn't do this with HPA, which might have skewed the calculation. I'll see if I can find a better way to do it.

Nice, this could be of use to Showdesktop, I think he was recording the data this site needs.

Convert an old HPA tank into a CO2 tank:

I never realized how farkin' huge those old 110 c.i. tanks were:

Look at the pic of him at the end of the vid. You'd need an 8" drop to make it manageable.
