Bob is going to get me one of the ones we tested that day. I'm sure he'd get you one if you asked.

Re: Radio Question
I've heard great things about the FM spectrum vs FRS/GSRM and this model specifically:
http://dx.com/p/px-777-5w-10km-400-470m ... v-ac-15295
Prices are comparable to FRS, but the channels are cleaner with a longer range.
Thoughts?

Re: Radio Question
While it may be better from a technical stand-point, I don't see myself making the transition for a few reasons:
-we have enough trouble getting people to use the radios we have
-I find the extra range a moot point. We had enough range at a large scenario at Canadian Carnage so that's enough for me. Maybe if we plan on going to ION or LL6, but until then I think it's "good enough."
-those are more money. Cheaper means that when it get hits with paint I won't feel as bad shelling out for a new one.
-they're usually bigger and bulkier
-due to the increased size, I think they'd be more likely to break
I, personally, don't see myself using one. This is not an attempt to discourage use, though. However, I think our limited efforts would be best spent better implementing the radios we have ala Homey B's motorcycle helmet implementation.

Re: Radio Question
Question: have we investigated the good ol' Citizen's Band (CB) option? Years of old equipment out there plus some pretty fancy options if you want it.

Re: Radio Question
Or, if we're all going to completely re-vamp, why not D-STAR?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-STAR
TCIP-based, simultaneous talk/receive, repeaters (wifi and across the internet), the ability to send files..........Homey B's pants are tight just at that
For long range stuff, I actually prefer analogue (ie. can still pick up signal with additional static), but our use will be short range (ie. under a mile) so I don't see that being an issue.
EDIT:
Something like this or this is a proper radio/scenario planning tool.
