Server Testing

Post by [PX]Kal Bob »

Good Morning All,
I was doing some reading on Minecraft + RAM Disks and the setup seamed simple enough so I figured I was give it a try.
I made a backup of the world at 7:30 am.
Then I copied the map up into ram.
The server runs fine from there.
I have a rsync cronjob that saves a copy of the map to the spindle drive every 5 mins.

Please let me know if you notice an change in lag issues.
It should be during heavy load (Lots of users) and in Exploring.
So if there are a bunch of you on at the same time, and you want to test this.
Get together and explore new areas of the map.

Just over 3 gigs by default.
The map is just over 800 megs.

So have taken this to the next level.
I had notice quite a jump in performance in certain areas.
However, there we still some lag issue in other places.

To Combat this U have moved all of minecraft into the RAM Drive.
This should nail down our I/O issues.

The next upgrade will be the use of a a VM to allow Minecraft (Which can only use 1 core) access to 4 or more cores.
More to follow on this score.

I just tried it and It's super smooth for me as well. Chunk load times are much quicker.
