Assassins

Post by [PX]Kal Bob »

Requirements

A group of players with their names on cards.

Setup

Players stand in a circle with their cards that have their names and a description of what their wearing. Each player then passes their cards to the player to their left. A referee will tell the players to continue to pass cards to their left for a random amount of time. At that point, everyone takes the card in their hand and has one minute to hide anywhere on the field.
Rules

Players are only allowed to shoot the person whose name is on the card they hold. When a player successfully shoots the player who he is hunting he then takes that player's card. The player then hunts out the player who is on that card. A player who shoots and doesn't have that player's card is disqualified. The game continues until all players but one are eliminated or until a time limit is reached. Each player retains the cards of all the players they have eliminated. For example, if Player A shoots Player B and B has already eliminated C and D, B keeps the cards of C and D and leaves the field and only gives A the card of the player he is currently hunting.

Victory

The player who has collected the most cards at the end of the game is the winner.

Strategy

Trust nobody. Hunt for your target but treat every opposing player as if they have your name.

Variation

When you eliminate a player you also get all the cards that player has already earned. This way, whoever is the last player on the field will have all the other cards and will be the winner.

We played this last session (May 7th) and I thought it was fun but it seems like there were a few things that need to be tweaked.

I think the main thing is the target picking, we did not create a circular target path as described above, we just picked our targets randomly and this meant that some people could have each other and once one was eliminated they were out of the round. I think we should try to pick the targets more like they described and it could make the game more fun. The electronic target picker that Bob mentioned could solve this problem.

We also played one version where you could defend yourself, and one where you couldn't. I personally prefered the mode where you can't defend yourself as it added more suspense to the game and eliminated situations were your assassin might purposly not try to kill you because they are waiting for a better shot.

Your quite right, I voted now. It would be nice if only people who have actually played both modes voted in the poll.

I also vote no for self defence. I was for it until we played that way, and there was too much room for confusion, cheating, and arguments.

I would like to play this mode in the woods as it was originally intended, and work on a target assignment script to go along with our high-tech atmosphere.

I have started to work on the target script, there are 2 issue now

1) how to view your target without seeing other peoples targets.
(At the moment it will be a screen and you click you name on a list, see your target, then click Return to list and the next person comes up.

2) A better way then the person you killed tells you your next target.

Maybe, after you kill your target you have to go check in the station, or stations.
Report your kill and be given the next target.
We would have to have a no camping the report station rule.

I am think of how missions and targets are assigned in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
Thought?

I think that a Marshal is a MUST for this mode.

The Marshal will assign targets (via computer or just by writing them down), and then when you hit someone, the Marshal knows who has who and discretely tells you your next target and records the hit.

I will volunteer the first duty on Sunday to see how well it works.

How do you know where the Marshal is?
If you are always in the same place, we might as well use a computer for it and you can play to lol.

In fact, I have touch screens, I could whip up a second machine and we could go touch less....
Interesting.

I would do digital, I should be able to have it ready by then.
You can use my phone for the unit, the screen is large enough to make it easy.

Either way, the great thing about the reporting back in to a machine or marshal is that we can score it and keep a record of the kills

Either way reporting back to someone (a computer or a marshal) will make the game more difficult because you'll be vulnerable to your own assassin during all your travel time to/from the computer/marshal. That's why getting your target from your own kill is handy, they are always right with you when you kill them.

On the other hand making the game harder isn't necessarily a bad thing. We should probably try it both ways (with a computer, or with a Marshall). The advantage of the marshal is that they could roam the field so they would probably be closer to you than the computer station, although like Bob said if they are moving around a lot it might be difficult to find them.

I was thinking that while going back to the point you would put your hand up and you would be as if you were "dead".
Then the kiln where you report has four exits.
you are out of bounds coming out of the door and in the building.

With the four exits if someone is wait for you, you can sneak away.

I like the idea of slowing the game down abit, I think it was a little fast last time.

I think the only issue is that if we let people call themselves out any time (and then return to the game) they might do it to avoid getting shot. I think it would be better to have the challenge of sneaking to the computer. Hoepfully it wouldn't be too hard if it has 4 exits/entrances.

I also like that idea, it is more in the spirit of Assassins.
If you take that away, it is more ordered deathmatch.

I do think that the computer building should be a no-kill zone though.

The Marshal would be on the move. If you get hit, announce it, and he will go to the person that hit you to tell them their new target.

If anything, it is worth a try. If it doesn't work, so be it.

I agree it is worth a try.

I just don't like the Idea of yelling, "Hey Marshall! over here!" when someone is looking for me with a loaded paint ball gun.
