Nik gets it for FREE (legitimately)
On a side note, I now also have several Product Keys for XP/Vista if anyone needs one.

Re: Windows 7
Legit ones?
Yes, everyone gets Win 7 for free now. These $30 ones go beyond the date. Unless you have another method for free ones? Always interested, am I.

Re: Windows 7
Once it comes out, I have lined myself up a copy. I can't go into details here, as the internets are far too public. And yes, the XP and Vista codes are legitmate codes from old computers.

Enable the Ultimate Control Panel for Win 7:
http://ow.ly/T1Fg
http://ow.ly/T1Fg
William here. Wandering the stream on a slow Tuesday. Kids are at school and it's so quiet. By now you may have heard about an alternate Control Panel view some folks are calling God mode and probably because God mode has much better wow factor than alternate (or ultimate) Control Panel view. Still, I prefer to think of this feature as the Ultimate Control Panel (or UCP) view.
To create an alternate view for Control Panel, you simply open Windows Explorer and then create a new folder. Next, you name the folder with any text string, followed by a period and then add the globally unique identifier (GUID) for the alternate Control Panel view.
The GUID is: {ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}. Following this, you could name your folder:
DadsStuff.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
Or
MyPanel.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
Or
JustDucky.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
It's the GUID, not the text string that does the magic. The GUID is a registered value in the operating system and it identifies the alternate Control Panel view.
When you create and name the folder in this way, you'll have a UCP that looks like the figure below.
You can use the UCP to quickly perform common tasks with:
Action Center
Administrative Tools
AutoPlay
Backup and Restore
BitLocker Drive Encryption
Color Management
Credential Manager
Date and Time
Default Programs
Desktop Gadgets
Device Manager
Devices and Printers
Display
Ease of Access Center
Folder Options
Fonts
Getting Started
HomeGroup
Indexing Options
Internet Options
Keyboard
Location and Other Sensors
Mouse
Network and Sharing Center
Notification Area Icons
Parental Controls
Performance Information and Tools
Personalization
Phone and Modem
Power Options
Programs and Features
Recovery
Region and Language
RemoteApp and Desktop Connections
Sound
Speech Recognition
Sync Center
System
Taskbar and Start Menu
Troubleshooting
User Accounts
Windows CardSpace
Windows Defender
Windows Firewall
Windows Update
More on the alternate Control Panel soon.
Thanks for reading, time for me to get back to work! Hope you'll take a look at my new book Windows 7: The Definitive Guide. Also just released is my book Exchange Server 2010 Administrator's Pocket Consultant.
