Intellectual property seems to be a hot topic with software nowadays:

This author asks if IP is a property, why isn't it taxed? Those that don't pay the tax release the work to the public (good for everyone) and those that do still make money off their product.

Interesting quote here from Maj Gen Smedley Butler in the 1930's:
