Do'h! Found better one started again.
When Steven Seagal kills a ninja, he only takes its hide. When Chuck Norris kills a ninja, he uses every part.

Chuck Norris and Mr. T walked into a bar. The bar was instantly destroyed, as that level of awesome cannot be contained in one building.

Cool movie, though I agree with Firingsquad's Tom Chick's rant.

Pulled straight from PlanetCouterstrike........um, HalfLife:

Erik Johnson on HL2 Rumors
5/20/2003 14:30 PST | Half-Life 2 | by Fragmaster |
We asked Valve's Erik Johnson to clear up a few Half-Life 2 rumors that have been spreading around:
Rumor: A Half-Life 2 SDK (Software Development Kit, what mod makers use to help make mods) will be released before the game is released.

Erik says: "Yes, we will be releasing an SDK for the Source engine for MOD developers before the game is shipped."

Considering the SDK for the original Half-Life wasn't ready until months after the game's release, this is great news!

Rumor: The Day of Defeat team is already working with Source.

Erik says: "The Day of Defeat team is currently working on the follow up release to Day of Defeat 1.0, which will be version 1.1. They are not yet working with the Source engine."
Erik also confirmed that there will be a Half-Life 2 Mod Expo, and more information on that event will be released soon.

Shacknews has this interesting post about Half-Life 2 multiplayer physics. Here's the gist of it:
The physics in the single player part (judging from the movies from E3) look absolutely fantastic, but how will physics work in multiplayer? Won't there be a problem with sending all the physics information packets to all the players? Are you perhaps scaling the physics engine down for multiplayer?

Gabe Newell: Well, the simple answer is that there are client-side and server-side physics behaviors. You use client-side when maintaining cross-client coherence isn't important. This cuts down network traffice while maintaining the appearance of physical simulation throughout the world... it's definable per-object, so exactly what's client vs. server simulated is tunable."
And this Yahoo article about the future of games opens up with a quote from Mrs. Doubtfire himself, Robin Williams, talking about Half-Life 2:
"It's like you've been seeing two-dimensional and now you can see 3-D," says Williams, a devotee of the original 1998 sci-fi game.

He compares the experience to a beautiful woman's posterior:

"It's incredible."
Of course, the fact Robin Williams plays games is nothing new, as he talked about the original Quake back on David Letterman years ago and is also a fan of Day of Defeat. Nanu nanu.

Well, now we know why it can run on such a slow machine:

http://www.shackspace.com/~carnivac@sha ... /chart.htm

It'll look about as good as the original on the low end. That's a massive difference compared to the 9700 level. Makes me glad I went out and bought one ;)

EDIT:

Whoops! Apparently, linking from someone's Shack account is a no-no. Gimme a second or two..........or three..........to find the image again.

EDIT2:

Double whoops! Apparently, it's not even an image--it's a chart. Just click the link for the specs.

So the low end is the original engine (ie... Yeech!) and the high end is the source engine....

Sounds about right...

Well, even if it is ugly, atleast it will be able to run on a low end system. I am sure Dempsey will appreciate them thinking of the low end guy.

Yeah, but the developers should be raising the standards. Carmacks a shining example of this (as is Tim Sweeney to a lesser degree). What if Carmack had caved into pressure and made a software path for Quake 3? Would the video card segment be as advanced as it is today? I'm can see the whole "gameplay-over-visuals" argument, but if we had always done this, we'd still be playing friggin' text-based games. There has to be a line. I think they should've cut it off at dx7, not dx6.

I think they should cut off DX entirely and go all out OpenGL.

Fair enough. But OpenGL 2.0 isn't finalized yet and both Valve and id are creating the games to run well on the Xbox for obvious reasons. I'm interested in seeing how Microsoft will react to id's OpenGL game.......or if it will even be OpenGl (can you imagine Carmack making a DirectX game? Just blows my mind).

Its more frightening than Mind-Blowing really..

To think that teh Carmack would abandon the API which had been a leader in supporting and (dont quote me on this) developing is scary in and off itself.
