MPAA wins against Torrentspy, but not on basis of copyright infringement per se:

They said that turning over personal info (which is illegal in the Netherlands) was required in the US. They didn't want to interfere with Dutch law, but that was good enough for the judge.

This is more a basis of privacy than copyright. Big implications here (ie. server out of country, but still prosecutable in US; privacy of identity on the net; etc.)

Jeremy Clarkson, of Top Gear, had to eat his words recently:

When some personal data was stolen, he said it wouldn't do any harm and he provided his own info as proof. Well, someone made a donation to charity with his funds to show that wasn't the truth. Clarkson now admits it was a big problem and those who lost the discs should be punished.

I just think he was lucky that the person who did it only wanted to prove a point and really didn't stick it to him
