Satellite wireless internet is becoming popular again:
http://www.dailytech.com/JAXA+Satellite ... e10849.htm
If they fix the latency problems, it could become a real contender.

Space is about to go wireless:

Newer satellites may be smaller (ie. cheaper), but use wireless internet to communicate with other satellites.

Re: Wireless Internet
Guide To Setting Up A Wireless Router To Be An Access Point:
1. Plug router into network or plug PC into router
2. Find out router address (ie. 192.168.1.1) and log in (ie. user/password)
3. Disable DHCP
4. Change router address to f2all within your subnet address (ie. 192.168.101.2:255.255.255.255)
5. Change SSID, logon password, admin password, security (ie. WAP2), etc.
6. Plug into port 1 of switch/router and you're done
If you're worried about security, do the following:
1. Turn off broadcast SSID
2. Manually connect to the wireless
