Automatix for Ubuntu:
http://applications.linux.com/article.p ... 7&from=rss
For all the bother she went thru, I don't see why she doesn't just select all the stuff from synaptic, set it, and then walk away.

Review of all the past Ubuntu's using Bootchart:
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=a ... perf&num=1
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=a ... perf&num=1
Bootchart works by modifying GRUB (or the LILO boot-loader) to load a boot logger (bootchartd) that records system information such as the CPU statistics, idle times, disk statistics, and running processes.

I have to say, Ubuntu and Compiz Fusion interface is fantastic... I love it so much and as for Wine it seems to be getting a lot better as is CrossOver. I have almost completely migrated each computer to Ubuntu. Its a great way to refresh what little knowledge I have of using linux (brief experients with Gentoo and Suse lasting about 6 months each respectively)
If you havent tried it and you have some basic linux/command prompt/dos knowledge you really should.
Now if the games would just smarten up and start producing for linux M$ would take a big hit I think

Gentlemen, we got 20 calls about the David Hyde-Pierce incident. And as you know, one call equals a billion people, which means 20 billion people were offended by this

I agree. Specific "killer apps" are about the only thing holding it back. I think Google realizes this and, thus, commissioned someone to develop Photoshop for Linux. If they do this with enough real programs (ie. workstation applications), more people may just consider switching.

i think a lot more corporations would.
From an admin point of view its a lot easier to work with then windows and the end user has less ability to circumvent whatever 'protections' you put on there.
and its free so it cuts down on the liscences. You might have to pay a few admins more for the knowledge/training but those costs are really small compared to the liscence costs
