FireGL
First, download glinfo
http://mypage.bluewin.ch/TheEdge/projects/glInfo/
Use it to know if you really success on patching your card
(it should display firegl, and not radeon)
If it's OK,
then do that procedure. It is a whole procedure, maybe some informations won't be useful for you, but follow that procedure:
Use a tool like driver cleaner to ensure that you have any trace of any ATI driver in your harddrive
then,
unpack the executable file, choose a directory for unpacking the files, and cancel the installation.
add in all .ini file that I will give you the device ID of your card (for first and second display): An example:
[WIN2K]
Label=R6
R6=DriverPath_R6,0x4E67,0x4E6B,0x4E68,0x4167,0x417
4,0x4E54,0x4E47,0x4C66,0x4C64,0x4E4B,0x4E48,0x4E50
,0x4147,0x4154
DriverPath_R6=\2KXP_INF,C2_11793.INF
I've added 0x4E68 and 0x4E48, just after their true firegl twins... Do like that, it is more clean
If you don't know the device ID of your card,
go to :
http://pciids.sourceforge.net/iii/?i=1002
That's a pretty good list of Device ID cards.
Of just use that ATI tool:
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/ati-util-jan-2004.exe
That "little mod" has to be done in these files:
C2_11793.INI; C2_11793.INI both of them are located in driver folder (in fact, you only need to do it for C2_11793.INI if you run on Win2k, or the other one for WinXP; but change both of them, we never know...)
After that you need to add those sort of lines in two files:
C2_11793.inf
CX_11793.inf
Add
"ATI FireGL X2 Joe" = ati2mtag_R350GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4E48
"ATI FireGL X2 Joe Secondary" = ati2mtag_R350GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4E68
The name does not matter, write down Geforce 7 if you want . but:
- ati2mtag_R350GL is important, because it is linked with the type of your chip (R350=radeon 9800, R300,=Radeon 9700, and so on...)
- VEN_1002&DEV_4E48 is the device ID of your card and so on....
And just one last thing to do is to delete the " ; " of the line ;Direct3D=1 in the install.ini file found in FGLPanel folder
Then you will need to use the patchfiles with rivatuner:
the patches will be done in two passes:
First pass:
- execute SoftFireGL w2k.rts (found in RivaTuner\PatchScripts\ATI\SoftFireGL\Unified\ folder)
- then atioglgl antiprotection w2k.rts (RivaTuner\PatchScripts\ATI\SoftFireGL\Unified\Ant
iprotection\Driver folder)
- then Installer antiprotection.rts (RivaTuner\PatchScripts\ATI\SoftFireGL\Unified\Ant
iprotection\FGLMax Folder)
- then Installer antiprotection.rts (RivaTuner\PatchScripts\ATI\SoftFireGL\Unified\Ant
iprotection\FGLPanel Folder)
Then you can manually install your driver (device manager,
update driver, locate for CX_11793.inf if you have WinXP, or C2_11793.inf if you have Win2k...)
After that, install control panel and max drivers. Be sure to note the name of the directory for control panel, you will need it.
Restart in safe mode. we can do the second pass
Second pass:
- launch the 11 others patches that are located in RivaTuner\PatchScripts\ATI\SoftFireGL\Unified\Anti
protection\FGLPanel
the files that are needed to be patched are located in the folder I asked you to remember. Running in safe mode should allow you to write on these files (file protection issue)
- launch the atiimxgl.exe antiprotection.rts located in RivaTuner\PatchScripts\ATI\SoftFireGL\Unified\Anti
protection\FGLMax folder; the file you will need to patch is located in:
ATI Technologies\Fire GL 3D Studio Max folder and not in the folder you needed to remember
after that you can restart....
And you should have the fire gl control panel...
Check it with GLINFO, to be sure....
If you are not able to have it working properly, try to install freefiregl. The only drawback is that it is only in english or russian. But it is automatic...

**These Steps will teach you how to Turn a Geforce Card into a Quadro Card through Software**
----Step 1: Download software
Download and install the latest RivaTuner-
http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?pag...uner&menu=8
Version RC 14.3 NY for the purposes of these instructions. (RC15 is out now, but I have not tested it).
Download and install X-bio -
http://www.3dchipset.com/bios/nvidia/flash/xbios520.php
(Allows you to view video card bios information)
Download SPECviewperf 7.1.1
http://www.spec.org/gpc/downloadindex.html
Used for benchmarking
DOWNLOAD MY PRE-PATCHED Softquadro 45.28 DRIVER
http://jupiter.lunarpages.com/~augi...win2kxp_mod.rar
And skip to STEP 10 --- or, if you would like to patch the driver yourself, continue with STEP1B.
----Step1b (skip to step 8 if you have downloaded my PRE-PATCHED driver)
Download original Nvidia Forceware 45.28-
http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/....28_win2kxp.exe
This is the latest version that works with Softquadro patching.
Download Modstep zip
http://jupiter.lunarpages.com/~augiem2/Modstep.zip]Download Modstep.zip
Contains modified nv4_disp.inf and unpack.bat, used later
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 2. Unpack (do not install) the 45.28 driver from NVIDIA to a directory, for example -- c:\45.28
Step 3. Create a temporary folder, for example -- c:\MOD
Step 4. Copy these 3 files from c:\45.28 to c:\MOD
nv4_mini.sy_
nv4_disp.dl_
nvoglnt.dl_
Step 5. Copy the Unpack.bat to c:\MOD, and run it. (file is in Modstep.zip, download in Step1b)
unpack.bat will expand the 3 files in MOD.zip, creating:
nv4_mini.sys
nv4_disp.dll
nvoglnt.dll
Step 6. In c:\MOD, delete the old files:
nv4_mini.sy_
nv4_disp.dl_
nvoglnt.dl_
Step 7. Run RivaTuner
PowerUser --> Open Patch Script
Apply these four scripts:
*Softquadro4 (win2k/xp)
*NV Strap Antiprotector (win2k/xp)
*AnisoBoosterOpenGL (win2k/xp)
*DetonatorFXAntiprotector (win2k/xp)
When the script ask for the location of the driver, just point to c:\MOD
Step 8. In c:\MOD, delete *.old ,and rename the rest:
nv4_mini.sys => nv4_mini.sy_
nv4_disp.dll => nv4_disp.dl_
nvoglnt.dll => nvoglnt.dl_
After that, copy them to c:\45.28, replacing the original files
Step 9. Copy nv4_disp.inf to c:\45.28, replacing the original one.
(Allows 45.28 drivers to recognize the 5900XT)
------Begin here if you downloaded the PRE-PATCHED 45.28 drivers
Step 10. Download a 60.xx driver from guru3d, install it (run exe), reboot ,uninstall it, reboot., Your system is back to VGA mode.
10.In the moded driver dir c:\45.28, run setup.exe to install 45.28 driver,reboot.
11.Run RivaTuner, install NVStrap (click triangle next to Customize..., select Low Level System settings -> NVStrap Tab -> install NVStrap) , but do not reboot. In NVStrap, Change the PCI Device ID to Custom --> 0338 Quadro 3000. Reboot.
12.When Windows asks to install a driver for Quadro 3000, press cancel.
13.In c:\45.28, run setup.exe, again, reboot.
14.Go to Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Nvidia panel -> Open GL Settings -> Vsync OFF by default
15. Run SpecViewPerf 7.1.1
16. Run the Run_All benchmark in SpecViewPerf and post your results here
-------------
Note: Quadro cards make use of optimized OpenGL drivers that speed up 3D graphics work by 2-3x over the equivalent Geforce drivers. THIS WILL NOT IMPROVE GAME PERFORMANCE -- in fact, running your card in Quadro mode will actually make most games slower. But never fear, after doing this test, you can easily revert back to your current driver. (Just remember to uninstall NVStrap -- it's in the same place where you installed it.) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

..a GeForce 6600 GT can be both NV43 A2 (moddable) and NV43 A4 (not moddable)
..a GeForce 6800 can be both NV40, NV45, NV48 (moddable) and NV41/NV42 (not moddable)
While Nvidia know which kind of GPU they sent to the manufacturer,
and the manufacturer knows which GPU they used when making the card..
..you will most likely only come in contact with the retailer.
And the retailer doesn't know, doesn't care if you get a NV40 or NV41/NV42,
he sells you a working GeForce 6800, that is that.
So you need to either look at the heatsink, or install the card,
then start RivaTuner or look in registry to know what GPU and revision it has.
However, there are some cards that so far has only had NV40 / NV45 /NV48 (moddable) GPU's,
and that is GeForce 6800 Ultra and GeForce 6800 GT.
The 6800 Ultra should have 400 MHz core / 1100 MHz memory.
The 6800 GT should have 350 MHz core / 1000 MHz memory.
Since Nvidia stopped producing the 130 nm's NV40 / NV45 / NV48 a long time ago,
the 6800 Ultra / 6800 GT cards is usually only in "slow-selling" stores.
If you can find then at all, that is.
Also, keep in mind that..
..the 6800 GS PCI-Express uses NV42 (non-moddable) with 425 MHz core / 1000 MHz memory.
And so if you see an advert for a
"6800 GT PCI-E - with 425 MHz core / 1000 MHz memory"
- you should stay away!! It is really a non-moddable 6800 GS with NV42, only with wrong name.
The 6600 GT with NV43 rev A2 GPU's is "virtually impossible" to find new in a store.
