Nightmare On Elm St. IV: The Draining of the Kegs

Hey Hey,

The days are getting shorter and the leaves are turning colour. We all know what that means--Halloween's around the corner. Now you could brew up a mug of hot cocoa and sit around some fireplace engaging in a logical positivism fest debating critical thought and how it relates to structuralism. Or you could just dress up like a fool and get sh!tfaced with us. Your call.

The festivities will begin at 8 pm (hopefully.........look, as long as the shopping cart wheels don't explode like the last time I moved kegs for the toga party everything will be cool........if not.........well, we'll work it out when that time comes). The theme for this year will be Saturday Morning TV. Any show that you can think of watching on a Saturday morning is up for grabs. Be anything from a Smurf, to Mr. Wizard, to a Planeteer, to Bryant Gumble, to a Thundercat, to Mr. Ed, to Kathy Lee Gifford........just come dressed up. Feel free to invite your friends (by either forwarding the evite or by just verbally telling 'em). Cover will be $10 a head and that gets you as much beer and vodka mix you can drink. Various other drinks will be circulating around so feel free to parouse the booze buffet. Door prizes will be handed out on a first come-first served basis. Prizes will be given to costumed individuals (ie. best dressed, skimpiest dressed, most humorously dressed, etc.) provided I don't get super drunk like at the toga party and forget to do it. Oh, like you even remembered the contest was supposed to happen last time. Gimme a break here, people


So, for all you people who skipped my ramblings and just went straight to the end, here is the summary. Dress up, get to Elm, and join the party.




p.s. Yes, Elm St. has been structurally reconstructed under civil engineering supervision to meet the weight demand of people.

FOR THOSE PEOPLE FROM THE EAST

1. Get on the 401 and head WEST


2. You'll come into Toronto once you pass a bunch of places (ie. Colborne, Oshawa, Whitby, Pickering). In Toronto keep an eye out for a road called the DON VALLEY PARKWAY. You will want to take this expressway SOUTH.


3. The DON VALLEY PARKWAY then curves WEST. Keep going on it until you see the turnoff for YOUNGE STREET. You will want to go NORTH on YOUNGE STREET.


4. When pass DUNDAS STREET (by the Eaton Centre), open up your eyes. You'll pass a stoplight by SAM THE RECORD MAN (Sam's is on the right). Very quickly after that stoplight will be a PIZZA PIZZA on your LEFT (it's only about 50 feet after the lights). Turn LEFT by PIZZA PIZZA onto ELM STREET.


5. Continue on ELM STREET until you come to the stoplights at BAY STREET. Just over BAY STREET on your LEFT is 61 Elm St. You've arrived.






FOR THOSE PEOPLE FROM THE WEST

You people have 2 routes. Choose wisely--less roadway, but a chance of getting stuck in awful rush hour or more roadway, and a slightly lesser chance of getting stuck in awful rush hour.


Method #1---403

1. Get on the 401 and head EAST to WOODSTOCK. Once there, you'll want to get on the 403.


2. You'll take the 403 EAST through Brantford and Hamilton. Once past Hamilton, you'll want to get on the QUEEN'S EXPRESSWAY (QEW) and head EAST to TORONTO (DO NOT HEAD TOWARDS NIAGARA FALLS).


3. The QEW will end and you'll turn onto the GARDINER EXPRESSWAY.


4. Take the GARDINER EXPRESSWAY until you see the turnoff for YOUNGE STREET. Head NORTH on YOUNGE STREET. To determine which way is north is easy (look to your left and see the city--look to your right and see the lake.......the city is what you want ).


5. When pass DUNDAS STREET (by the Eaton Centre), open up your eyes. You'll pass a stoplight by SAM THE RECORD MAN (Sam's is on the right). Very quickly after that stoplight will be a PIZZA PIZZA on your LEFT (it's only about 50 feet after the lights). Turn LEFT by PIZZA PIZZA onto ELM STREET.

Method #2---401

1. Get on the 401 and head EAST to WOODSTOCK. Once there, you'll want to continue EAST on the 401.


2. You'll continue EAST on the 401 through Kitchener and Milton. Once you get into Toronto, stay sharp. You'll need to turnoff onto the 427 and head SOUTH. You'll go SOUTH for a bit until you see the turnoff for the GARNDINER EXPRESSWAY. Take this turnoff and go EAST.


3. Take the GARDINER EXPRESSWAY until you see the turnoff for YOUNGE STREET. Head NORTH on YOUNGE STREET. To determine which way is north is easy (look to your left and see the city--look to your right and see the lake.......the city is what you want ).

FOR THOSE THAT PREFER THE BAY TURNOFF


From the EAST

1. You'll be traveling on the GARDINER EXPRESSWAY WEST. Get off on the BAY STREET turnoff. Go NORTH on BAY STREET.


2. Now if it's before 7 o'clock at night, you should do this complicated turn (no left hand turns are allowed onto ELM STREET off of BAY STREET before 7). Turn LEFT heading WEST onto DUNDAS STREET. You'll pass a one way street (ELIZABETH STREET) and the next street will be CHESTNUT STREET. Turn RIGHT onto CHESTNUT STREET. You'll come to a stop sign so turn RIGHT onto EDWARD STREET. You'll come to ELIZABETH STREET so turn LEFT onto it and head NORTH. At the next 4 way stop, turn RIGHT onto ELM STREET. The house will be there on your right. If you hit BAY STREET, you've gone too far.



3. If it's after 7 o'clock at night, you're life just got a lot easier. Just head NORTH on BAY STREET. When you cross DUNDAS STREET, keep your eyes open and look to the LEFT side. Eventually, you'll come to a set of lights. These lights are on ELM STREET. Turn LEFT and you've arrived.




From the WEST

1. You'll be heading EAST on the GARDINER EXPRESSWAY. Get off on the BAY STREET turnoff. You'll go around this loop and then there will be special little turnon that you'll need to go through (just follow the signs). You'll come to a set off lights. Turn LEFT and head NORTH on BAY STREET.


2. Now if it's before 7 o'clock at night, you should do this complicated turn (no left hand turns are allowed onto ELM STREET off of BAY STREET before 7). Turn LEFT heading WEST onto DUNDAS STREET. You'll pass a one way street (ELIZABETH STREET) and the next street will be CHESTNUT STREET. Turn RIGHT onto CHESTNUT STREET. You'll come to a stop sign so turn RIGHT onto EDWARD STREET.
