First one unless the OC isn't much more (lifetime warranty).

X800XL if on a budget.

EDIT:

Why not a 6600GT?

well there are two reasons for the 6800...
A) the 6600 gt has been known to have serious serious issues with dual amd lines
B) I was under the impression that the 6800 was quite a bit better but hence the point of this poll... i dont know really wanted to see what everyone thought

The 6600GT can be clocked up to the performance of the 6800GT without much effort.

Same bang, less buck.

The 6800GT is faster (no doubt) when it comes to playing with AA/AF, but it lacks the hardware decoding for movies. I can't even watch movies on my second monitor the playback is so cr@ppy. Granted, mine's been softmodded to a Quadro.

What issues do you speak of?

simply doesnt work with MPX mobos
random reboots, lockups
there are about half dozen threads on 2cpus in the last two months dealing with this and the general consensus is that the 6600 doesnt like mpx but 6800 plays nice

I am trying to think for the future as eventually it will be a backup card for my mpx i believe

Well, then this is what I would consider:

1). 6800GT (might as well make it the OC as there's only about a $30 difference..........unless you want dual DVI.........then go for the XFX one and save about $30...............you decide)

Pro's:
-SM3.0
-softmoddable to Quadro
-easily overclocks to Ultra speeds
-Linux drivers
-lifetime warranty with the OC
-simply kicks @$$ in the D3 engine

Con's:
-only lifetime warranty if you get the OC (if you don't, you don't get dual dvi)
-not necessarily the fastest stock
-BIOS voltage mods fark it up almost certainly
-warm running
-dual slot

Rough price = $415 - $460 before tax

2). Ati X800XT

Pro's:
-simply kicks @$$ in HL2
-single slot
-fast in a wide variety of games
-just an underclocked PE
-the AIW option is SOOO cheap you might as well get it (this opens up a shat load of extras)
-softmoddable to FireGL (I'm fairly certain on this one........but haven't done it myself)
-5 year warranty
-overclocks well up to PE speeds

Con's:
-not lifetime warranty
-runs warm
-Linux drivers
-no SM3.0
-availability sometimes sporatic

Rough price = $500 for the AIW before tax (the VIVO's and non-AIW's cost more so I'd definitely recommend the AIW)

3). Ati X800XL

Pro's:
-simply kicks @$$ in HL2
-cheapest of all 3
-single slot
-fairly cool running
-softmoddable to a FireGL (I'm fairly certain on this one........but haven't done it myself)
-5 year warranty

Con's:
-shat overclocker
-not lifetime warranty
-Linux drivers
-no SM3.0
-availability sometimes sporatic (especially for the AGP version)

Rough price = $375

So, basically, I'd say it comes down to this: Linux drivers and price.

If you want Linux support, the choice is obvious (6800gt). If you want the cheapest, the choice is obvious (X800XL). If you don't care about Linux, don't care about the price, or just want the multimedia functions, the choice is obvious (X800XT).

i know i asked this before but i am still curious
i have a 128 meg... is it worth getting a 256 meg card at this point? i mean i see the 128 6800 ocs for like 300ish... wondering if the extra 200 is worth the extra 128 megs

6800 OC != 6800 GT

If you're gonna get a 6800 (ie. the NON GT version), just get a 6600 GT. They work out to about the same. Yes, 256 mb is worth it IMO. However, 512 mb is not. If both prices are in U.S. dollars, grab the 6800 Ultra. If the XT is in Can. $, then I'd go for the Ultra (works out to about $400 Can at the most), but would still consider the XT a good deal. I consider CAD, SM3.0, and Linux drivers to be more important. If you consider movie playback and cost paramount, however, go with the XT.

Basically, you'll know what to do. ;)
