The HitchHikes Guide to the Galaxy: Pre-Review

Post by Ghost [PX] »

The long and the short of it is that the movie is a horrible slap in the face to Douglas Adams and all his fans... I linked to the short review because there isnt any spoilers in it. I want to see this for myself and see what its like, but this makes me worry... Alot... I've feared they would butched this movie since I heard it was being made sometime last year and I am terrified of the ramifications...

Here's hoping the author is wrong... Also, here is a list of things that ARENT in the movie...

Let us all pray to the gods of whatever governs movies that this is not a terrible horrible experience...

Here's another one that says the exact opposite, but points out alot of flaws... Im not sure whether he's stupid or just in denial... He does seem to be a fanboy though so its gotta be one of the two...

So this means for those of us who haven't even seen a single volume of the series, it's gonna rock?
When Steven Seagal kills a ninja, he only takes its hide. When Chuck Norris kills a ninja, he uses every part.

Chuck Norris and Mr. T walked into a bar. The bar was instantly destroyed, as that level of awesome cannot be contained in one building.

No according to the first reviewer even if you havent read the books it'll still be a bad movie...
But we'll just have to see.

I can't really see how this is possible, the script they used for the film was developed by Douglas Adams, infact he created a new character just for the movie and most decisions about what not to keep in the picture were his. Obviousally they couldn't keep all of the content from the book in the movie, some parts had to be cut.

I think that if you don't agree with the parts that were cut out, then you don't respect the decisions Douglas made, and that's more of a slap in the face than anything.

Meh, just wait until it's out and then make the call.

Sometimes the original is better, sometimes it's not.

We all know what George Lucas' "artist vision" did.

That argument could have held water..... If Adams was still alive. But hes not. He died. Thus, all control and contributions he may have made can be scrapped and there isnt anyone there to say "No, thats just silly" anymore.

I agree with Jason, Although my faith that this movie will be worthy of the title is dwindling.

I realize that Adams is dead, but from all reports I've read the producers used the script he wrote with very minor changes as to stay true to his vision of the film.

According to his biographer "minor changes" included slicing and dicing the dialogue entirely to their own uses...
We shall see... The fact that Disney is behind this has made me cringe since Day 1.

Why don't we just wait to see the movie before we all make judgments based on something some one said. I mean how many people after hearing that this movie was not going to be everything it could be, is actually not going to see it.

I fully intend to withold judgement until I've seen the movie myself, I merely posted this because the first review is written by Douglas Adams' Biographer, which to me says something.

I like to go into a movie with a little info on it so I have some idea what to expect. If Im wrong, so be it, but I like my preconceptions damnit!

This worries me greatly...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/film/4461899.stm

A lot of effort has gone in to keeping the film as faithful to Adams' vision as possible. But somewhere in the production process the crew has lost sight of the fundamental aspect of the books - they were immensely funny.
