ram compatibility

hey guys i know this is a pretty easy question to answer i wasnt 100% sure so i thought i would ask

is all ram (low density) backwards compatible? i was thinking about taking a 512 out of this computer and putting it into an asus board that only goes up to 266... would that work?

EDIT: ram in this is 333mhz

If you're asking can you run 333 RAM at 266 RAM speeds, then I would say "Yes."

I'm running 400 stuff at 333 right now.

so i plug one of my 333 into the 266 board and it should scale back automatically correct?

Correct. RAM only runs as fast as you tell it to. The latencies, etc.(SPD settings) have default values (if you turn them to 'Auto'), but the RAM will obey the "speed limit" that the fsb gives it.

Summation:

333 will run at 266 speeds.

Barring some weird problem I've never seen before, of course.
