Gentlemen, we got 20 calls about the David Hyde-Pierce incident. And as you know, one call equals a billion people, which means 20 billion people were offended by this

Steve, if you still want me to delete your post and roll without the character points let me know here.
(For everyone wondering about this, it is in response to a misunderstading between D6 and D20 rules that may involve the implementation of a new house rule in relation to brawling and melee parry reaction skills.)

No, they arent breasts, they're personalities, because its ok to like a girl for her personalities

In D20, apparently the parry ability allows a counter attack in the same action, and in D6 it does nothing but block, so it might as well be a dodge. I am considering including the counter-attack option if the defender beats the attacker's roll by around 6 or more.

NOTE: the roll has to be quite a bit higher then the attack for perry to provide a counter attack hence i put to char points into the perry (which would have otherwise sufficed)

Well, I cant speak for D20 video games, but in the Pen and Paper version, there is no such thing as a melee parry.
Shadowrun, however, has a system whereby you can reverse the situation in Melee combat, but its far more complex than Starwars combat.

Well, as far as I can tell, after checking the Dungeon Masters Guide and the PLayer's Handbook, there is no such thing as a melee Parry in D20. Melee COmbat in D20 works like this.
Someone attacks, they roll their attack and add their attack modifier and combine the two. If the total is greater than the defender's armour, it hits. Thats it. There isnt any parry. You take it and thats that...
In Shadowrun, Melee Combat is quite different. Both characters in Melee combat roll their attack dice. The player with the higher successes gains the upper hand and has the chance to do damage, regardless of whether its the attacker or the defender... This is to represent the hectic nature of melee combat.

Ok. Well I may include counter damage in melee and brawling parries, because, as Steve pointed out earlier today the Melee parry isn't very useful, given the fact that you simply block and do not gain any advantage that you would not get from dodging.

here is a link to said rule
it would seem that every game has a variation of parry

That rule was created for Neverwinter Nights because it doesnt exist in the Pen and Paper one. I've checked all th core books for 3 and 3.5 and its not in there so its up to Sean what he wants to do with it.
Personally, I dont think you should be able to turn a parry into an attack, since the very idea of Parry is that you prevent him from hitting you. Perhaps give you a bonus on your next attack, but not a free attack from a high enough roll.
