The Next X-Prize, if you are american.

Post by [PX]Kal Bob »

This time the prize is worth 50 million. One hitch, you haveto be a Yankee in order to win. Here are the details:

Fark that. It'll just be another person who manages to secure gobs of money from a corporation. That, to me, seems to spoil the idea of the X-Prize and all these knock-offs.

Kind of stupid limiting the contest to Americans, although I don't see any problems with allowing corporations to compete.
This is how these kinds of prizes have been done since their inception...it clearly takes the efforts of more than one human being to achieve the dream of space flight.

More than one human != corporation.

NASA is a corporation. The idea of the X-Prize was to find an alternative way to space. Paul Allen funding it broke that idealism. And this idea coming from a hippie like you only disappoints me.

No, I was saying Paul Allen has the power of a corporation, yet is but one person. I realize that came across poorly (evidently, my coding skills are a little lax when intoxicated). When you have that kind of money, it still defeats the purpose of the X-Prize. They were supposed to find a way to enter orbit and cheap as possible and, the unwritten rule, do it unlike how NASA does it.

Paul Allen's venture breaks so many of those aspects that his entry is a non-entry in my mind. The fact that Richard Branson scooped it up only seems to fortify that in my mind.

Seeing how you were the university "pure science boy," I find your stance on corporations odd.
