Worklog: Portable Nintendo Entertainment System (NES2GO)
This is where I am going to keep a project log of my current project: a Portable NES, or NES2GO as I have dubbed it.
So far I have a parts list, and am in the process of obtaining all of the parts. More info in the weeks to come.
Please limit responses in this thread to questions about the project.

Edit: I changed the title to include "Worklog" in it, since thats what it is. I also stickied the thread for you.

Have you considered the all in one systems that are on sale now?
I am refering to the units that look like a N64 controler and have RCA outputs. They included a bunch of games built in.
I would think that this would simplify your taks as the the elecrtonis are srunk already for you.

Good idea, but I think he wants to follow along the same lines as the portable Dreamcast and Portable PS2 that Jason posted. The actual system made portable through user modification.

That is exactly what I am doing, only it will allow cartidges, and won't be limited to the 76 games that come pre-installed. The NES mobo is far to large to be made portable. The NES-on-a-chip provides the small hardware that I need without being limited to emulation games.
And thank you Paul for the sticky-ing.
I will post a list along with aproximate costs tomorrow.

Parts List .............................. Aprox$ . Actual$
Power Player (NES-on-a-chip) .... $40
NES to Famicom adapter ........... $10......$20 ($15 + shipping)
NES Controller ........................$5 ........$5
NES Controller Ports X2 .............$5
PSOne Screen .........................$75
Battery Pack ...........................$25
TOTAL....................................$160......$25
as for the design, I don't know how I'm going to do it yet, but it will look like a big GameBoy with a 5" screen. Right now, all I'm concerned with is getting it to work. I'll put it in a make-shift cardboard case if I have to.

small update: the us-japanese adapter has been purchased, as well as a japanese cart (Mario 3) to test the power player. The Power player itself is a bit of a problem. I read somwhere that Nintendo is in the process of a law-suit surrounding emulated versions of their games, so I want to get one of these things as soon as possible. The problem is, me and Jon are having some problems buying from the eBay store with the best deal. There is some sort of PayPal problem at the point of sale. Wish us luck... As for the screen, I'm looking at PSOne screen alternatives. I've found a promising 5.6" widescreen car TV for less than a PSOne screen. I'll be bidding on it in about 7 days if the price on it doesn't jump too much before then.
