Server Replacement: Claudius
As many of you might have notice, Romulus, with thanks to the Jew has maxed out its webspace. Because of this I have chosen to Replace/Upgrade the server. The new specs are found below. In addition to this, Server Claudius will feature a Security Hardend version of Gentoo Linux, along with all of the latest security meathods availible. I had planed to put this new machine into service within two days of returning to windsor. However, due to a further upgrade in the system, this change over will be delayed untill Febuary 1st.
In order to maintain the functionality of Romulus, 179Gb's of hard disk space will be made accessable on January 7th.

True to the enginers moto conserning features, I have decieded to add one.
XDMCP, allows a full graphincal desktop to be used over a network. It is like SSH but not a command line. All you do is install the windows client, eg X-win32 and type in the IP. You will get a log in screen, KDM, just like on my desktop machine. From there you enter your username and password and bang, KDE, Gnome, ICEwm what ever you want.
Once logged in, you can run any program installed, install software, surf the net, what ever!
Here is the coolest part if you use X-win32
Anyway, this will make file organiztion simple if nothing else!

OpenGL: While some X11 servers offer 3-D support, X-Win32 was the first to offer support for the Silicon Graphics OpenGL and MESA GLX extensions and also provide the benefit of hardware acceleration by routing the OpenGL-based X traffic through the computer's OpenGL-compatible graphics accelerator card.
Anyway, this will make file organiztion simple if nothing else!

I have decided to forgo the temporary space upgrade on Romulus in favor of a full change over. The last of the parts should be here on Saturday. If UPS is wrong the Motherboard will arrive on Monday. If this occurs, the upgrade will be delayed until the next Friday.
There should be minimal downtime, 2 hours max.
The only possible problems may be passwords. THIS DOES NOT AFFECT THE MESSAGE BOARD. This only affect MySQL accounts, and User Accounts.
I will PM holders of such accounts temporary passwords.

Full Spec list is in the first post. I have revised it to reflect both current support and future upgrade paths. I will be adding a new Installed/Upgrades section for apps that will be accessable via XDMCP once it is on-line.
I will be updating the webpages to reflect the new server just as soon as I get XDMCP up and running. That way i will be able to edit the files directly from within the server.
It is recomended that any webmaster or user who has links on the server, preform a check of said links. I was forced to alter the directory layout in order to incress the efficancy of the server. This might break some links.
Is there anything else that people would like to have available on the new sever?

I need the following users to PM me passwords that they want for their accounts. You can change it the first time you login.
I have decided not to assign random password, because I want to see which accounts are still in active use.
aj
ravenwebmaster
thanatos
vasdeferens
Also if anyone who does not have an acount wants one, PM me a Username/Password and I will set it up. Please spcifiy if you wish a web account or just a XDMCP account. Web Accounts come with a domainname.

This is a Unix Login on the new server.
A User level account gives you the following:
SSH login
SFTP Login
XDMCP Login (Remote Desktop)
Web Gallery Account
Unlimited Server Space (might be caped a 2-4gig's later)
CPU time for compiling
Access to any software on the server.
A WebUser account gives you the following:
Same as above but also:
Seperate webspace
URL: whatever.kalshadowtech.com
and/or
whatever.redneckbeatdown.com
Uses:
This is handy for people with websites, as there Development Enviroment can be tied to there webspace.
Anyone who wants to try out a Unix Desktop and software without installing first.
A handy way to send and recive files (SFTP).
A great place to complie code quickly and test it's SMP support.
Hope this clears things up
