what the hell is with all the law suits ? crikey these guys just dont give up... they lost their suit against Grokster so now they are going after iMesh... those damn bastards leave my p2p alone.... with mirc servers being shotty at best iMesh is the best i can do for now... speaking of which does anyone know any progs like mirc where i can contiune my ... um 'research'? or perhaps other decent mirc servers?

Bullsh1t like this p1sses me off. Record sales are up so they're fudging the numbers so that they're cases in court will be won. So now they make more money off record sales and collect money from people who download. Fark record execs.

Our government does get their share. We're charged a tax on all recordable media that goes directly to them. That's why it's going to be interesting to see what happens now that the Canadian Recording Industry is suing downloaders. We pay the tax for the goods.............why can't we download? Not to mention we have much different copyright laws.

Are you sure that the CRI is suing downloaders? I would be interested to see an article on this.

It's the reason I switched to mIRC instead of Kazaa, eDonkey, and BitTorrent. Well, that and AutoGet simply kicks @$$.

Your first article is questionable at best, and I remembered that from last time, that's why I asked again.

It doesn't sound like any of the suits have reached any customers yet and I think there is a good chance they could be thrown out. Although this sounds bad:

The industry said this is just the first wave of such suits, that more are coming, and they won't stop until Canadian music pirates are punished.

They are clearly suing only uploaders, not downloaders as you suggested.

In anycase they won't be busting down my door. I don't share any mp3's on peer-to-peer, and under the current law it is quite legal to download.

Yeah, but pretty much anyone who uses Kazaa or Bit Torrent does upload at the same time. With Bit Torrent, it's mandatory (unless you block off the ports on your firewall, anyways). For some reason, our news media only covers the suits south of the border with fanfare and not here. Thus, we have very little idea how far the charges/suits have gone.

So far they've only targeted uploaders, but I wouldn't put it past them to target downloaders. They might not win (probably won't), but the court fee alone would be something that most people wouldn't want. They're not out to break even--they're just out to bugger around.

Plus, we all know it was you who stole the HL2 code.

That sucks..I wonder how much luck they will have trying to persecute people in these other countries though.

I just can't believe that other groups see the RIAA's tactics as effective enough to implement them for themselves.
On another note maybe we should all let ourselves get the MyDoom virus, it seems to target the RIAA.

As of Today, Wednesday the 31st of March file sharing is legal in Canada. The courts ruled the CRIA has no right to sue people who make files available over P2P filesharing networks.

Yah, there is still a chance the Supreme court could turn over the ruling, but I don't really see why they would. The law is pretty clear.
