Duke Nukem Still Forever
According to Shacknews, no DNF this year! Ill be dead by the time its done. It gonna have to be the absolute best games ever made, man
When Steven Seagal kills a ninja, he only takes its hide. When Chuck Norris kills a ninja, he uses every part.
Chuck Norris and Mr. T walked into a bar. The bar was instantly destroyed, as that level of awesome cannot be contained in one building.

Take heart, Dempsey. They're still working on it:

Still adding new content??? I swear they must be unionized to be working this slowly on it.

Exactly. However, aside from not getting the game done, they are playing their cards right. Rather than p1mp it out and leave people disappointed, they're not really saying anything. I actually think this is the best way to do things. Look at HL2 and D]|[. They're both highly anticipated games and they're both pretty much shielded behind a viel of secrecy. Sure, we've seen a few screen caps and small vids, but that's it. Anyone remember all the bloody screenshots of Tribes 2 a full year before its release?

To calm Dempsey down, here are a few classic Duke phrases
DNF won't ever come out so you can't 'Come Get Some'
Your computer wouldn't be able to run it anyway so 'Suck it down'
'Shake it Baby' - Ummm, maybe not a good idea....
'I don't have time to play with myself' - oh yes you will, because DNF won't be out ever! Just try to dampen the pain with some zero hour.
Bwa ha ha ha ha ha!
Paragon out.

Misc Questions:
You know George said there will be 3rd person in DNF. Like for big turret guns, vehicles, etc. Doing this sort of thing should be trivial.
That was old. Very old. DNF is all first person.
Also, 3DR can take advantage of the matinee code present in the Unreal Engine, to allow for entirely scripted movies.
No, we broke off from Unreal's code in 2001 or so. We never merged in any of that stuff, and we went our own way.
On DNF Status
Overbudget and delayed can be confirmed!!!
On editing
UnrealEd is hardly the pinnacle of 3D level editing. Too hard to learn and too cumbersome to use. It really seems like FarCry's editor is a modern day equivalent of Build. You just jump in and do stuff and get WYSIWYG editing. I'm glad to see a game that's easier to edit. It's been far too hard for the last 7-8 years.
I hope DNF still uses the editor, but has modified all the trigger types and how everything ties together to function properly.
Absolutely. At it's core, it's still UnrealEd and it's a very nice editor.
I'm also hoping that rebuilding lighting/geometry is a thing of the past.
You still have to process a level, but it's a matter of a few minutes (4-5?) for an entire level and much faster for smaller, localized changes in a map.
Hey George, if DNF were to come out with the tech it has now (here's hoping!), how compatible would it be with files created by UnrealEd? For example, if I started laying out a cool map idea in UnrealEd, would I be able to give it a good go with Duke's Enormous Tool and add DNF enemies, objects etc?
No, not really. Everything is different. Our visibility, rendering, everything. You could bring in raw geometry, but there's no guarantee it would ever run, as any level made in Unreal may be apples to oranges to what you would do, or how you would do it with out stuff.
Or would the two be far too incompatible for that? I really just want something to occupy myself with during the wait that keeps me at least a little inspired, I have some cool Dukematch ideas I would like to try and make, but I'd be a bit disappointed if my effort were wasted on little more than a practice run of the final thing rather than the foundation for the final thing itself.
Consider anything you do along these lines as throw away. Do it to have fun in Unreal, but have no expectations of porting it over the DNF.
Get exited!
George, You don't seem as confident-- no, that's not the right word-- excited, rather, about gameplay features anymore. That's understandable, as games come and go and some features just aren't new and exciting anymore.
I woldn't try to infer my confidence level from text on a message board. It's funny...no matter what you say, or how you say it, you polarize people on both sides of the fence. If you sound excited, then people call you arrogant and if you don't and you try to downplay some hype, people say that you've lost faith in the game
I have as much optimism for the game as I did, 5 years ago, when I was 13 years old and registered for the boards.
So do I. In fact, more.
