I didn't know either, then I went to the variety and noticed that the bar next door was packed, which seemed odd for a wednesday night.

Now, not to discredit the Scots as drinkers, but wouldnt St Paddy's Day be more important if you were Irish?

Canada does more drinking on St. Patrick's day than Ireland. It was actually official practice for a time for the Irish to abstain from drinking on this hallowed day. The idea was to make the world see how good and devoted the Irish were.

The world never noticed. They do, however, get the day off.

Its not, they just say it is on St Paddy's day to sell more
