Metric or Imperial?
Which do you prefer to use? Metric or Imperial?

Guy, some Imperial units do have their uses. I'd much rather talk about pressure in p.s.i. rather than Newtons or heat in b.t.u. rather than Joules. I also prefer calories for food than joules.
Technically, the U.S. doesn't use the Imperial method completely. They invented some of their own which just happen to work. When was the last time you heard anyone talk about how many stones you were? That's a true Imperial measurement that the Americans don't use.
Plus, much of our (yes, our) data is in the old form. That's why we still need Imperial.
EDIT:

Still commonly used in Britain (ie. stones) and some other European countries--not to mention Canada. We didn't magically convert all of our old data into metric the day we changed.

It's our official way of measuring. I'd bet that almost as many people use Imperial as they do metric.
French is one of our official languages, but its popularity as the language of choice wanes outside of Eastern Ontario/Quebec/New Brunswick. Usage and status are 2 very different things.
I do think metric is a better system all around, but that Imperial still has its uses. Road width is 66 ft. I rather just say it's 1 chain then always have to use some decimalized metre measurement.

Well, I would much rather use the pascal for pressure measurement (although it is based on Newtons) than p.s.i. and the calorie and the b.t.u. are terrible units. The Joule is nice and standardized, if we used the imperial system then we would have a thousand different units for every little thing and none of them inter-relate nicely, if at all. I'm happy the americans don't use stones, now they just need to get their asses in gear and abandon the old system altogether.
If we have old data that is still in an archaic system like imperial, then we should get to work on converting it right away, and so should the americans.

Ya, my work uses Imperial, that is all we use. Im shure many other countrys and/or companys use it aswell.
The only reason you still use it is probably because of American influnece. If they would switch then I bet the Imoerial system would be totally gone within a few years.

And we should change all the existing road lengths to 2 km and 20 metres wide, too...........right?
Pascals are fine. But when the majority of our products of an industrial-nature (ie. not plastic crap from China) come from the U.S., we'll use whatever units they put on 'em. We dropped the ball in the 60's manufacturing-wise. This is one of those side effects.
You'll also note that I hinted that I preferred metric for computations. As soon as we get the "new math" where everything's some other base than 10, we're all buggered with metric.
Oh, and metric time sucks.
