Video Stuff

Post by Angmar »

Hey Jew, remember that video thing you made with Homey J and the car and stuff? I have a few questions about stuff like that, such as what did you use, how did you edit it, etc. Generally how did you make a clip like that, and how could i go about doing it?

It's kinda for school, a bit, and there's nothing like using technology to impress your friends.

What we used

Post by [PX]Kal Bob »

We used a stadard Cam Corder, with S-Video outputs.

We then used a video capture card, I belive it was a GeForce 770 Ultra.
An ATI AllinWonder would be batter, this was the reason I bought one, Never used it.

We used Adobe Premire 6 to edit everything together. Then we played it back through the video cards TV out to a VCR.

Summary:
Cam Corder.
Video Capture Card.
Adobe Premire.
TV-Out Video Card.
VCR.
KalNet SysAdmin.

Homey B's pretty much got everything right except the video card was the Asus v6600 SDR Deluxe (here's the review of the v6800:

http://firingsquad.gamers.com/hardware/ ... efault.asp )

If you're going to do it yourself, here's what I'd recommend:

1). Digital camcorder (they cost about $10 000, but if you have access to one, it makes it editing digitally a lot better. Just don't drop the camera ;) ).

2). LeadTek WinFast TV2000 XP TV-Tuner w/ FM Remote or
MSI TV@nywhere TV Tuner PCI w/ remote or
Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-250 Personal Video Recorder

The Leadtek one has a better remote, I've used the MSI one (works good, though the Leadtek one uses the same hardware components so it should work the same), and the Hauppauge one uses hardware mpeg encoding (it's also the most expensive). If you've got lots of money, I'd recommend the 9700 AIW, though.

3). Get Adobe Premiere 6 and After Effects with ALL the plugins.

4). Get out your VCR.

5). Get various hot females to make your home "movie"

Thanks guys. Yeah, I've got about half of that stuff. Is it worth getting another card, or could i just use my own? It has s-video inputs... :|? Yeah, I don't really know what difference it would make so if you would be so kind as to break it down, that'd be cool.

That's the only thing i'm not quite clear on, aside from that i think i'm almost set.

If you're just editing the movie, S-video inputs should be fine (that's all my asus card had). This is assuming you have S-video or RCA out, though. S-video (or a S-video to RCA convertor if your VCR doesn't have S-video) are all you'll really need to edit the movie. You only really need the cap card if you wanna capture TV, etc.

Anybody happen to have Adobe Premiere 6.5? I hear that it has MPEG editing abilities.

EDIT:

Or does anyone have Adobe Premiere Pro?

I can get you Adobe Premiere Pro 7 or Premiere 6.5 build 198. I'd say go pro becuase it says the 6.5 is not the retail version yet.

Pro 7 would be great. I need something to edit MPEG's and I'm hoping the later versions of Premiere allow for that (5 didn't........at least, not easily that I know of).
