1700+ is what I'll prolly go for. Usually, just as good an overclock but cheaper ($90 for an OEM one).

Same here, steve got his 1700+ to about 2.2GHZ (not performance ratio, actual clock speed).

Thats basically what Steve got his 1700+ to overclock to. Add that to the price difference and you have yourself an amazing little chip. Ask Bob, or Steve, those 1700+'s are insane. I saw it with my own eyes, 2.4 (Im pretty sure it was this, wasnt higher though, possibly a bit lower) running stable and sweet. For $70 you cant beat it.

Well the 1800+ is good but I do think the 1700+ is better

I have pictures of it going to 3.11 Ghz

This was originally supposed to be posted before the Cogeco fiasco:

Just so people fully appreciate Steve's overclock:

1700+ = 1467 mhz
2167 mz = 2700+

I pressume we're talking about GF4 4600 that lives in Chatham Steve? What's he using to cool? Also, do you know if it's a B revision or A (if ya don't know, when did he buy it)? If ya don't know that, what colour is it (green or brown)? Or (this will make it super easy) when he changed the multiplier, did he join the L1 bridges or L3 bridge(s)?

Pimpin Matt, you may wanna take the site's overclock with a grain of salt. It is all luck of the draw after all. That and cpu's ability to overclock don't increase just cuz the chip runs faster at default. In fact, sometimes they decrease. For example, here is the steppings for an AMD 1700+ Thoroughbred B revision:

AXDA1700DLT3C 9346856280043
JIUHB0307VPMW (m)(c)1999 AMD

Running them through the "stepping" checker results in this:

Athlon XP Processor Low-end
Core Thoroughbred-B
CPU Model 8
Performance Rating 1700+
Working frequency 1467 MHz
Package Type OPGA
Operating Voltage 1.5 V
Max Die Temperature 90° C
L1 Cache Size 128 KB
L2 Cache Size 256 KB
Multiplier 11x
FSB Frequency 266 MHz
Stepping Code JIUHB
Manufacture Year 2003
Manufacture Week 07
Production Batch M
Batch Production Number 0043
Downgraded from 2800+

Here, you can see that this was a 2800+ that was binned to meet demand for 1700+'s. Essentially, this guy just bought a 2800+ for the price of a 1700+. So, yeah, it depends more on the stepping numbers (ie. what model, what batch, etc.) more so than the mhz rating. If ya wanna find out the info on your 1900+, here's the checker site:

http://mp3.zonebg.com/cpu/cpu.php

They don't always tell you if they got downgraded, but they do tell you the multiplier, model, voltage needed, and operating temp which are all good indicators of how one can overclock it. Though, there's only one way to find out..........try it

You call that LN2 cooling? This is LN2 cooling:

Out of curiousity, how do you know?

For aid, here's an early comparison from over a year ago (about when Pimpin Matt bought his..........I think):

I don't suppose you'd know his steppings, would ya?
