Status Symbols

Is it possible to have the symbols convey more than just new/non-new? [H]ardforum let's you see ones you haven't opened, ones you commented in today, ones you commented in yesterday or earlier, ones with a certain number of replies, and some other things I haven't figured out yet.
Granted, place this at the bottom of the "to-do" list, but I was just wondering if it was even possible.
