Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) will unveil the Athlon XP 3200+ processor Tuesday, the final entry in the Athlon desktop chip line that made AMD a player in the technology marketplace. While the Athlon brand name will live on next year in the Athlon 64, a desktop derivative of the Opteron server processors already available from AMD, the Athlon XP line will offer no new desktop processors after the 3200+, the fastest desktop chip AMD has produced to date.

I offer a single tear to the Athalon XP and it's legacy will live on in my heart forever, even though I don't have one.

No way. They'll keep producing them for at least a few years. Remember the Duron? They've fazed it out. Wanna know why? AMD has all ready said that once the Athlon 64 comes out, the XP will become their budget chip. Why do you think they're holding back its performance? Guys have been able to overclock certain XP's to astounding clocks. If the XP (ie. their budget chip) performs too well, why would anyone buy an Athlon 64? AMD's performance, quite frankly, is going to suck for the next 4 months compared to Intel. But come September..............
EDIT:
-if by you meaning there being no new models (ie. 3400+), I'd say you're prolly right. If you mean they're going to stop producing XP's, I'd say you're wrong. I just realized that you could be expressing your point of view in 2 different ways.
