EverQuest is now free to play:

There's also a F2P everquest 2 out there that is similar to WoW (EQ2 came out first though, let it be known). It includes some expansions or your can pay a one time cheap upgrade fee to get access.

They are working on the new engine called "Forgelight" that will be their new MMO engine for EQ3 and Planetside 2. Its really good looking visually and will allow them to have massive amounts of people in the same play area simultaneously.

I just really hope that Sony doesn't axe the project due to their disappointing revenues and change in upper management.

Sony has made nothing but well-thought, prudent, and mindful decisions the past decade in regards to video games.
