What:
Due to the cold and wanting to "kick it old sk00l" it'll be a "pump and pistols" day.

What's that?

-no force feed hoppers
-no electronic markers
-markers using tech before 2000
-80's agg points awarded for pumps
-70's agg points awarded for pistols

HPA still allowed for logistic reasons (ie. 2 propellant sources better than 1), though a lot of people will probably be using 12's.

I actually think this will be a blast. Homey B will be rocking a Tippmann C3, Dempsey will be dishing out fury with his Talon, and I hope to bring out my Trracer and Splatmaster. Let's try and live the golden ages of paintball all over again.

We're hoping that there will be enough snow that we can build trenches, forts, the whole bit. We'll have a cauldron of hot chocolate in the staging area so people can warm up between rounds. If you wanna make it Irish, that's totally your call. Queen Zeus could probably be persuaded to have a Minty Thaw for her 29th bday.

I'll be cooking up a large hunk o' meat for the potluck afterwards. If everyone could bring a side of sorts, we could have a pretty good shing-ding together. Please post what you're bringing so we know what else needs to be brought.

Afterwards we can play it by ear. Settlers of Catan, a movie, shooting the breeze, a blitz-fest.......whatever.

I've located a source for winter paint. It's $45 a case. He says he only needs 1 week to order it so if we order by Valentine's day we should be more than set. Dempsey and I are splitting a case of it. What with it being an "old sk00l" event, you probably won't need as much paint. If you have a better source, please share. I'm indifferent where we get it from as long as we get it.

I also hope to have a pistols only round. I have a Splatmaster, Homey J has 2, I'm pretty sure Homey B has a BT, Dempsey has his Talon of DOOM, Neb should be getting a JT ER2, and that's just the ones I know off hand. Could make for a pretty cool round.

I realize that not every one has a pump or pistol. In the event that we have more people than we do markers, Neb has been gracious enough to come up with a solution. He'll construct 10 round tubes that you can use on a mechanical blow back (stock class style). This way, you'll have the "advanced" technology of a 90's gun but the ammo limitations of the 70's/80's. If you only have a whiz-bang electronic space dildo marker from after 2000, we'll provide you with a mech. blowback. We'd prefer not to do this, but we realize that it's a fair compromise. I'm hoping we have enough pumps and pistols. Either way, give Neb a free round when you see him the day of for stepping up to help out.

I think Jason has extra guns that meet the requirements so you might be able to use one of those.

Right, what with Neb stepping up to the plate to help out (thanks!) we could basically do a semi-automatic mechanical blowback with limited ammo. This, while technically not compliant, would meet the spirit of the event. Basically, I'm trying to organize a throw-back to pre-2000 paintball.

Well, what's that?

For the most part, this would have been one of the following setups:

-pump with 12g (ie. stock class)
-pump with constant air (ie. thank you late 80's AGD)
-semi-automatic with constant air and gravity fed (ie. Model 98 with a gravity hopper or what most of our group runs)
-semi-automatic with constant air and an agitated hopper (ie. the good ol' revvy.......again, thank you AGD for simplifying things)

So, you were basically running a mechanical marker fed by gravity. Frak you to all the people bringing up the Rainmaker and Angel's I had originally wanted to do a semi-auto with gravity fed event, but great interest was expressed in a pump and pistols only event. I'm fine with that but recognize that it may not be feasible (ie. people won't want to buy new equipment). So, if the semi's are ammo-limited (ie. 10 rounds ala stock class), the speed advantage they hold will be largely evened out. This way people can play without a financial investment. Since taking a Cyclone off make be a bit of a pain, I offered up my markers so that people could easily play and not have to futz with their guns.

I have a number of mech. blow backs that operate similar to this marker:

Quite frankly, most of our group runs a marker like this. Anyone with a 98 Custom, A5, BT-whatever runs a system similar to that. However, most of our group has a force-feed hopper (ie. Cyclone) which isn't the spirit of the event. Thus, rather than ask people to take the Cyclone off their marker and put on a gravity hopper (which would be a bit of a b1atch), I'd just let them use one of mine.

I can easily accommodate over a dozen people in this manner as long as Neb makes enough tubes.

The spirit of the even can basically be boiled down to this:

-limited ammo
-limited propellant
-low shot count

I mean, the first paintball game was won without anybody actually being shot:

In the late 1970's Hayes Noel and Charles Gaines were sitting around and talking, when they thought it would be fun to start some type of stalking game, as a challenge to their friends. They were wondering if attempting to survive in the woods could expose a deeply buried instinct. A friend of theirs remembered seeing a gun called a Nelspot in a farm catalog. It was an air pistol that fired paint shots to mark cattle and trees. Bob Guernsey and Hayes Noel bought some of the guns and wrote up the rules for that first game. This all occurred over several years and the first game, which they called The Survival Game, was played in 1981. This first version of the game was played in an every-man-for-himself format and dragged on for hours. The winner of the very first game of paintball won without firing a shot or ever seeing another player. I think this early form of the game is how most people perceived it. People crawling around in the bushes for hours, waiting for the chance to shoot someone.

I'm not suggesting that. I'm somewhat suggesting terms similar to the first paintball tournament:

In the Fall of 1983, just two years after the first game ever played, Bob Gurnsy's National Survival Game hosted the first paintball tournament--the 1983 NSG Paintball Championships. Eight teams from the U.S. and Canada made their way to New London, New Hampshire to compete for the $1000 first place prize. Shooting oil-based, non-washable paint, these twelve-player teams played games that lasted 90 minutes each. Players were only allowed to carry 40 rounds of paint and three 12-gram CO2 cartridges. The event was covered by People Magazine. The Unknown Rebels from Ontario, Canada won that first event, getting stiff competition from teams like Twelve Man Jury from Miami, the Buckaroos from San Jose, the Landsharks from New York, and Faces of Death from Ohio.

From this we can see that an emphasis was placed on making your shots count and that Canadians kick @$$ at paintball

Pumps and pistols was the easiest way to accomplish this. If we have more people than pumps or pistols, we have the means to make it so that older semi's meet the spirit of what we're trying to accomplish.

However, note that pumps are stupid cheap. I bought an excellent Splatmaster for $35 and Dempsey bought a Brass Eagle Talon off me for $5. He even "pimped" it out with a constant air adapter he can run off a remote line for a horribly expensive additional $5 (ie. $10 total). People on Kijiji sell these "cr@p" markers (a term I disagree with) all the time. They usually ask $20. Offer $10 and they'll likely take it. Heck, Neb's "high-end plastic Duck," the ER2, is only $45 on Kijiji right now. You could buy an old Spyder and turn in into a "Spump" for under $20 with only a dremel, a stiff coat hanger, and a pop can.

No, he changed it back to the 3rd. I've updated that post and the original. I've also emailed Neb.

He was undecided which was why I initially changed the original post for just the month.

If anyone needs to borrow a marker, please let me know by Wednesday at the latest. I'll need to check them this week to make sure they work.
