Radio Question

Hey Hey
The more we play and the more people we get, the more I think radio communication would be a major asset.
I think it would be great in Gauntlet or Zombie to be able to communicate with your team covertly.
So here is what I am thinking, I can pick up 4 radios and head-sets and I would rent them out at a cost of 50 cents per-round.
And a round is one complete mode played through.
Example 50 cents would get you:
Best 2 out of three in Guantlet
Best 2 out of three in Capture the flag
Best 2 out of three in Hunted
One run of Zombie
These are the radios that I am thinking of getting:
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6075628&sku=M40-0030And these are the headsets:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Midland+-+Hands-Free+Headsets+for+Midland+2-Way+Radios+(2-Pack)/8805055.p?skuId=8805055&productCategoryId=pcmcat185400050003&id=1209165020615The headsets are much cheaper in the states then Canada, that is why I linked to the best-buy website.
If people think it is a good Idea to get their own radios, I am cool with that as it would give us more radios for more people.
If you want to get the headsets from bestbuy, let me know and I will order them for you to my depot in the states. Shipping is cheaper that way lol.
Last point I want to assure people that I am not trying to make a cash cow here lol.
At 50 per rental and assuming all four get rented out, it would take 77 matches to break even.
Discounting gas to pick them up lol.
Any profit I one day get from these will get poured into more radios or other field improvements.
The real profit I hope to make from this is a more fun and interesting Paintball Experience.
Please post comments and suggestions!
Bob

I have 2 radios, but all of the headsets I have tried in them don't work. They transmit silence and don't ever stop...
If yours work with my radios I will buy a pair from you.

I hope that yours will work with mine, more radios the better!
I also forgot to directly ask, What does everyone think of the 50 cent rental setup?
Would you pay that?
To much?
Want to see if the radios are worth it?

As long as they are GMRS (which they are) they will all work together.
I would like to point out that I have wanted to use radios for a loooong time, and even brought them to a match, but was looked at with disgust

I think that was the lack of headset.
I would not use one without it.
in fact I am thinking of getting this one:
http://www.midlandradio.com/Two-Way-Radio-Accessories.NX9/AVP-H8It is 30 dollars at bestbuy.
The other thing is, I think we need enough for everyone to really make it worth the money to rent it.
I worked it out for a set of ten it was run about 330 dollars and pay back in 66 full rents.
I am hoping to get some feed back as to weather or not people are even interested in this before I shell out the cash.

I already purchased a pair for my bro and I.
UCOM 8-KM/5-Mile Walkie Talkie (2-Pack)Takes standard, 3-ring Nokia headsets and Nokia charges.
$28.54 USD shipped from good ol' DE.
I figured even if we didn't use them for paintball, they're good for trips with multiple cars or just organizing things when you're on a large property.

Does your mic have PTT?

I would consider getting a set for myself, which would add to the number of people using them.

The button is labelled "PTT" but I have no idea if it actually performs PTT.
This thread suggests you can use more than 2 walkies:
http://club.dealextreme.com/forums/Foru ... did.145980The frequency you get depends on the colour of the radio so if we're going to use them we should probably all order, well, now:
http://club.dealextreme.com/forums/Foru ... did.155775http://club.dealextreme.com/forums/Foru ... did.821553http://club.dealextreme.com/forums/Foru ... did.655440PMR (Europe) or FRS (USA)
No VOX, but PTT is suggested:
http://club.dealextreme.com/forums/Foru ... did.781170Battery charger pinout and batteries you can use:
http://club.dealextreme.com/forums/Foru ... did.768859(I'll just use a separate charger or get a Nokia charger.......ie. my Mom's cellphone charger

)
As far as I can tell, they're a cheap pair of Cobras *shrug* I'll test them against my Dad's and see what happens. I can look up the Nokia headset I found to work if people are interested.

I think I am going to stick to the midlands as the price difference is not significant.
Plus the Docking station is a big plus as it will make sure they have a home in the staging area.
I guess I could build one, but in all honesty I don't have the time to do it lol.
Plus I know I can get a throat mic for them lol.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Midland+-+Acoustic+Throat+Microphone+for+Most+GMRS+Radios+with+a+PTT/VOX+Compartment/9905201.p?id=1218192434605&skuId=9905201&st=midland&cp=3&lp=11oh, and I meant the headset, does it have a push to talk button?
I am going to have the radio safely tucked away in a pocket. the button will be on my wrist or gun.
Quango, I think there are alot of people that would split with you so it might be a good call.
I am still going to get a few sets regardless so that we have a supply for when new people come.
Let me know if you want me to snag a set of headset for you if you the order your own route.

The dock I can't comment on. The DE one's have a charger plug so you just........plug 'em in.
Throat mic for the DE specials:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/geniune-ea ... able-545172.5mm, 3 ring Nokia with 1.5m cable. The one pic seems to suggest a button on the mic, but it would appear difficult to wire that specific one up. However, any 2.5mm 3 ring one should do so go nuts. I got that one instead of the voice scrambler one because it was cheapest and didn't require batteries. I imagine DE has something like what you want, but if the other is set up how you want........it's your $$$, go nuts

I'm just putting mine in the radio holster.
I think the communication will be useful, but when things hit the fan verbal yelling and hand-signals will win at the end of the day.

I would only do it if we had at least a few people using them.
if we did then I would get one.

I wasn't that disgusted

We even used them that one round. I think they were just hard to use effectively without a headset.

You turned it off as soon as we split up because you were afraid I would spy on you if we switched teams. (zombie)

Right, "hard to use effectively"
