I realize this isn't announcing a LAN party, but I had heard that there was a problem networking Vista at one of the last LAN's. Here's a guide to help out with that:

Honestly, I think they deliberately made it sh!tty so that everyone would upgrade. Some of the decisions seem mind-boggling and the author's tone seems to convey that.

Yeah, I'm not seeing a real impetus to upgrade, especially since I'm going to be partially integrated into the office LAN, with a mix of XP, 2000 and a 98 thrown in for good measure!
