Some say hot air, others say let's get this over with, others feel M$ is right:

I want them to sue--the combined forces of IBM, HP, and others might the first nail in the coffin.

Well they centinly have the right to enforce their patents...if they can prove that they are relevent.

Well, that's the big "if" seeing as how:

1. the code wouldn't have been stolen as it wouldn't work on a *nix machine
2. anything remotely close would have been reverse engineered at the worst
3. Ballmer's not naming patents so it's bull$hit

But, then again, I'm not a big fan of patents ;)

Ballmer is blowing hot air. He never names the patents that are being infringed upon. If they actually had evidence that distros were using M$ code, they'd be in court already.

Actually, in relation to my point #1, Windows code can actually run on Linux now. I had forgotten that VB can now interact with Mono and it will be compiled for Linux.

But I still think Ballmer's a tool. Anybody remember "Developers.....developers....DEVELOPERS!!!!"?

Software patents in question:

If M$ brings about the fact that software patents are invalid, I will laugh.....a lot.........for a very long time.

So they say that they are going to sue people that don't respect their patents.
Then they say I court that software cannot be patented.

So they are not going to sue since they have no patents? I should take some law courses.. this is all so confusing!
