Nifty Article about id, teh Carmack and Doom III. Its 3 pages, but worth reading. Some info about M$'s request for an Xbox exclusive port.

Not really an exclusive port, per se. Just that M$ wants id to wait to release the PC version the same time as the Xbox one. I can almost guarantee there will be an Xbox port (he's on the Xbox board, after all). He also stated that an Xbox port was a "possibility" last year at Quakecon. That and what with RTCW on the Xbox, higher sales compared to PC games, less privacy, and higher returns, why wouldn't they? Just a sound investment. However, I doubt he'll turn his back on the PC. He's always stated it was the best platform.......bar none.

Quote:

"But id could pocket some cash from Microsoft. Redmond keeps calling, trying to convince the company to release a version of Doom III for the Xbox: "We're being offered a pretty significant amount of money to sit on it until an Xbox port is done," says Carmack. id hasn't announced a decision yet."

Look at all of those poor innocent Gamers they will crush by realesing it to the xbox. I don't consider console people gamers.

Me? I think he's still a bit ticked at ATI for leaking the alpha and, thus, isn't as condoning as he was on other cheats. Just more fuel to the fire, though.

Looks like they have a chance of winning. Granted, these results are very basic.

How you know that, on average, there's more money to be made off consoles:

Cuz Carmack says so.

The reason he says development and optimization on the PC sucks today? Video card driver incompatibilities.

what I look back as one of the biggest mistakes I made in this generation, was at the beginning, five or six years ago, looking and saying, "Consoles are basically as good as PCs"

Yeah, definitely a double-edged sword for large budgeted game developers today.
