ok guys let me pick your brain heres the deal
ok of the 5 computers that are on this network 4 or them after a certain time period get the limited or no connectivity message. the only computer that doesnt is this laptop.
its obviously not the router, the modem ect. I didnt know how to begin diagnosing the problem since it is happening to a number of computers.

Rebooting always fixes the problem but its a pain, also the manual release/renew ip from the command prompt doesnt do anything.

anyone got any ideas? its more annoying then anything but the interuption of downloading after coming home from school and losing 9 hrs is irratating

things that have been tried: virus scanner, spyware removal, uninstall and reinstall the network card in windows.
in my specific case its a built in nic card but the others use an actual card


any suggestions would be appriciated

its obvious what the problem is.........wtf am i talking about i don't have a clue whats going on i don't even know why the fuck I'm here, right now so sorry man cant help, if it was a solid state problem i would be all over that one. gl on getting the awnser though.

tracked down a possible fix, i will update as to the success

Are you sure it's not the router ?????

because if it happens on the computers you have serious problems with the Oses where each of them were infected with something


Also do a test for me lower the duplex setting to about 10/half and see if you still loose the connection

well i dont see how it could be the router when the laptop uses the same router and it is fine

i have since cured my own problem (sort of) i have a 3com nic as well and so i am using that

it fixes the problem because it has software that diagnoses and fixes network errors on the fly to keep you always up... according to the software

a 'transmit underrun' keeps happening in 1 night it happened 39 times... so i suspect that is the problem... though i havent the slightest idea what that means

I agree with Nate that it is the router, and Duplex mode in 10 half will slow you down for internal file transfers, but not the 'net. The reason it doesn't happen on you Laptop could be a configuration in your Windows to stop the underrun, or it may sense the Duplex better automatically than the other PCs

Is you connection with your ISP DHCP or PPPoE?
You should try direct without the router, and see if your connection is still lost after long connections, but hopefully the Duplex settings are all you need to change.

Set up a knoppix box and start a good torrent, see if it losses the IP. If it does then it is a router problem. If not a SP2 problem.

ok i switched to 10 duplex half though i had to go back to my nvidia nic as my 3com one didnt seem to have that option (if it did, it must have been called something different

also i came home today to the same error this post is about so that 3com software only sort of worked

as for connecting directly i cant really do that as everyone in the house uses the internet

Connect direct overnight. I'm sure your sister can do without her pr0n fix for one night.

erm its not my sister.... and my roomates can be so volatile that i would rather put up with the hassle of network problems
