At the moment most people are used to having to pay for software packages

I can honestly say I'm not used to that at all. Now if Google could just make a free, decent 3D package, I'd be in business.

M$ fights back in the search engine war:

http://www.live.com/

I'm shocked.
Firefox support is coming soon. Please be patient :-)

So far, it's not bad. It's much more than a search engine, though. How you're allowed to move around parts of the webpage is pretty cool.

EDIT:

It's still a bit buggy (ie. the search page doesn't always pop up when I do a search), but I am in firefox so I'll relent on that. The upcoming features section is nifty, though.

SUMMARY: good features, but they will become bloated/useless once it goes mainstream and hackers get a hold of it.

Billy says IBM is the big threat:

No real suprise there.

Though, I can't seem to find the link, but the news that Google is making an OS to be sold on Walmart PC's might be bigger news down the road.

Ballmer says they will be the dominant search engine and that Google is a one-trick pony:

But Google's hiring like crazy so everyone thinks they're up to something:

it looks pretty slick. ANd I'm p!ssed off at both Windows and Valve, for changing the OS environment and requiring specific builds of said OS.
