well i'm just full of b!tching today arent I?
i bought a 200 gig hd from ebat for 90 CND but it was shipping from the states so it gets here and they want $60 to deliver it!!!! $45 of which is their fee for bringing it across the border. USPS does not charge this. So i actually said to the girl that "so it was just my bad luck that the sender decided to ship ups!" she didnt say anything... I hung up after a curt good bye
i think i am going to refuse the shipment and get my money back

You also have to include the Tax that the good old federal government adds to your order as well. As far as I know there is a duty for all shipments across the border. My dad used to work for UPS and from what I've heard him say there are taxes on all cross-border shipments, As well as the fee for the weight of the package.

Yup, I got nailed duty when my Asus 5800 came over from Washington. $40 duty fee. I ignored the first and second warning, but when they said I had 10 days from the day the letter was mailed (so I actually only had 2 days by the time I received it) to pay or a repo man would come to collect I promptly paid by credit card.

I just shipped a SunRay across, and only paid tax. Mind you I did not use UPS, when ever I do I get hit with the Brokerage fee.
Tempus, you and I have to find a mailbox service like the UPS store in Detroit. That way we can just bring it over our self's and just pay the tax if we hit bad luck and they charge us anything.

I would also be interested in this option as my Detroit contact may be heading out for either Alberta or Arizona.

for sure we do. I would love to get a box in DT and save the shipping
as for the tax ya i was expecting that... it was the brokerage fee that got me.
also on the tax I got stuff from IL and it came USPS and it didnt cost me a cent.
I suppose its just the price you pay for using the big shipping company.

UPS now wants to charge the guy who shipped me the drive 12 USD just to return to sender. If he refuses the drive defaults to the CND govt
what a load of crap this is

Not duty related, but it's refreshing to see that UPS screws its customers south of the border:
